Garrysmod Fallout-roleplay server.
« on: July 18, 2015, 07:56:43 am »
Alright, so let me begin by thanking Kilgore for letting me to post this here.

So for those that are unfamiliar with Garrysmod - you can check out this website. http://www.garrysmod.com/ This thread isn't really to "advertise" the game - and nobody will ever buy this game just for one gamemode that I am about to write here about. So this is really more of a thread for those that are familiar with Garrysmod, and own it. Right so onto the server!

Note that the following is just a copy-pasted version of what fellow community member posted, so if you have any questions feel free to post them here and I'll answer them - alternatively you can go and visit the link on the bottom of this thread, and your questions might be already answered on those forums. Or you can just ask there and somebody will answer, really.

Here are some screenshots of the map. Note that this is source engine, it is quite impressive to make such a map. http://imgur.com/a/zl5Gf If you wish to see more, like the rigged characters, models and all that, you'll have to register on the forum and visit the "Developer diary" sections, where there are threads dedicated to all that.

Brief Introduction:
Our server takes place nine months prior to the events of Fallout New Vegas. This leaves plenty of room to alter the timeline and create scenarios that would otherwise never take place within the normal game. Our emphasis is on player interaction- complete with takeovers, faction feuds and player based groups becoming so relevant that major factions must take notice.

Why Us?:
The lessons we've learned at our previous community (The Spire Roleplay) have been noted. Due to our past experience in hosting such a large-scale server, we have gained the knowledge necessary to ensure our new community will succeed where we had fallen in the past. There is more emphasis on player decisions than ever before, and we have also created over a gigabyte of additional content compared to what we had on The Spire. There is a new map that is in the works and we have worked very hard to ensure that what we have will be a stable and long-lasting community.  Now without further ado- I would like to show off our features list.

Server Features:
Music streaming from our webserver- constant ambient music selected from all of the Fallout games.
Multiple currencies (NCR Dollars, Legion Denaris, Caps)
Storage locks (custom locks that can be attached to any container)
Proper robots (ambient noises, movement sounds, scale, etc.)
Broadcast Radios (with broadcast radio equipment.)
Randomly spawning loot.
Bonemerged clothing.
Dynamic factions
Unified Viewmodels
Multiple Eyecolors
In-built Flashlights (ie. Some are mounted on your armor, some are on weapons)
Complete item customization
Overlays based on Armor
Multiple languages.
Weapon/Suit inspection
Fallout Drugs and Addiction (Jet, Mentats and more!)
Enhanced Damage System
Enhanced Character Creation & Customization
Unique Trait/Perk system
And much much more!

Key Features:
As you may have noticed, there are several features in bold that I would like to take time to give even more information about- since I think that these are some that truly make us stand apart from the rest.

Music Streaming:
Instead of shoving 100's of tracks of wasteland ambiance into a pack- we decided to host all of the tracks on our webserver and automatically choose a different one after one has finished playing.

Bonemerged Clothing:
Instead of forcing players to be stuck with a single model, we have split most of our models into body/helmet portions. This allows player to mix and match armors, or even take their helmet off if they want people to be able to see their face.

Dynamic Factions:
Factions such as NCR and Caesars legion have plenty of ranks, that's for sure. So in order to make it less painful to modify someones faction status (Rank, armor, etc.) we instead have the script handle it for us! For example, a NCR Private (Pvt. Hello Imanexample) is promoted, the script will remember and bump up his rank so that whenever he has his NCR armor equipped, it will display his up to date rank (Pfc. in this case) and show him underneath his respective faction on the server's scoreboard. Likewise, if he wants to go off-duty, all he has to do is take off his uniform and his name will be set back to normal.

Unified Viewmodels:
ALL weapons will match the hands of whatever suit of armor you are wearing. No more CSS or HL2 hands!
Here is an album depicting the viewmodels:

Multiple Eyecolors:
This ties in to our Enhanced Character creation. All characters can select an eye color from a bunch of presets during their creation.
Ie. Green Eyes, Blue Eyes, Brown Eyes, etc.

Complete item customization:
In case of an event or even a roleplayed scenario- a person with appropriate flags can modify an items color (to any RGB value), the name of it, and the description of it. In the case of weapons- it would show this unique name and color on the weapon scroll menu. This customization applies to any item in the game, be it a piece of food, armor or even a bottle of Nuka Cola.

Overlays based on Armor:
For example, wearing sunglasses will nullify bloom and make your screen darker. In the case of power armor, some of your view may be obstructed due to helmet's design (T51B).

Enhanced Damage System:
All players have a menu which they can use to access their status- which gives a complete and unbiased source of information as to what you have been damaged by and with (ie. Fractures, Burns, Gunshot, etc.)

To go with this, all of our armors implement this system which means each different part of your body (Head, chest, both arms, both legs) have different armor values based on the presence (or absence) of armor. Armors such as combat armor protect the chest greatly, but lack slightly for arm/leg protection.

Enhanced Character Creation & Customization:
Potentially the most customization character creation system in an RP Server currently. This allows you to pick:
A Hair type. (from a range of our currently available hairs.)
A Hair color (from a range of preset RGB values.)
Eye color.
Facial Hair (if desired)
Face type.
Agemaps (make your character look old!)
Facemaps (Different variations of the same 'face')
Skinmaps (Skin color!)
Along with this, we have a plethora of accessories that can be worn in the place of a helmet, ranging from hats, to sunglasses.

Factions:
There are many factions (a good majority are listed below, though) that you are able to join as a Player. Maybe you will opt to start a new mercenary group, or maybe you can join the Slaver's Guild? There are many more playerbased factions being made, but you can consider the list below a slice of what is available.

Official Faction List:
(All of these factions are fully playable and supported by our dedicated staff team.)
New California Republic
Caesar's Legion
Brotherhood of Steel
The Omertas
The Chairmen
The White Glove Society
Crimson Caravan
Followers of the Apocalypse
Gun Runners
Independent Traders

Let me guess next NutScript based schema with no 'features' except their 'custom' factions & 'own' workshop mods ?
