Gank Avoidence?

Now, I'm all for hardcore games, I'm well aware of the whole "there's always a bigger fish" bit.

But I have to ask, is there anything I can go out of my way to do in order to avoid getting ganked?  Because being killed 9 times in one hour by 7 different people, all packing avenger miniguns and Mk. II combat armor is a little ridiculous.

Again, not to sound like the whiney new player, because I'm fine with "alright my guard was down, you looted me" but these seem to be happening waaaay too often.  Any way to avoid it?  Any areas safer than others?

Did they enter your encounter or was it in a town?

It is fairly easy to avoid. Simply don't stay in encounters a long time and make sure it isn't in boneyard around hub or in desert  left of hub. If you need to enter unguarded town make preview of spawn and then check world map. if you see no names world map you should be reasonably safe. Good luck.

Entered my encounter for 8 of them, which sucked for me because I was trying to escape said encounter as quickly as possible.  One of them I will admit was a miscalculation.  Some dickhead kept following me around the mine (no equipment) saying "gibe moni plx" over and over and kept trying to pick pocket me, I got annoyed so I took him to a secluded area to put him down, he pulled out an avenger minigun, blew me away, and said "Nothing personal, just business."

Draw a line from waterworks to junktown to necropolis to the east edge of the world map.
Stay north of that, 2 grids from New Reno, and out of Redding mines.

You already have good advice here. Summary:

* Avoid popular zones, like around Hub, Necropolis, and Boneyard. Go elsewhere to level.
* Once you're in an encounter, do not stay long. If you're near Hub, exit fast.
* Switch to Real-Time. You can exit must faster.
* Get Outdoorsman up. Use Scout books. At 150 you get fast-travel perks. 175 is max.
* Assume you're being watched, even on the map, because many times you are.
* Test any wild area by entering an empty place on map, and exit. Read text. No red names means no players are there at that time.
* Use Town/World button and preview a town's entry points before entering.
* Build tents next to all towns so you can drop gear before entering.

And that's probably half of the regular wasteland PK's who will no longer be out to shoot you.

Well well well...  It's the cow killer. ;P
All honesty though, I think you with your friend and I were bad luck.  I would have given you my 3k and laser rifle, I just wanted my cow. xD

But no this wasn't about you guys, I had one specific guy (not naming names) that basically started stalking me and killed me 4 times in a row.  After the fourth I just logged off, played some League, logged back in and he was gone.
