Reloaded Mapper and FO1 Maps
« on: February 15, 2019, 10:45:17 pm »
Hello everyone! I dunno where to go to post about this, so I figured I might post it here. I'm having some trouble getting the Reloaded Mapper to properly load some maps... the ones I can confirm are both the FO1 Shady Sands maps, the TARDIS map, and the MBVATS2 map. I'm reasonably certain this is due to some changes Interplay probably did between the releases of Fallout 1 and 2; they're not finding the proper files to load.

I was hoping someone would have a solution to this problem that works with the Reloaded Mapper, or that if anyone is working on the mapper still, they'll find a way to enable it to work with the FO1 maps properly without failing to load certain assets or spawning a bunch of curves where there should be walls as is the case with the Shady Sands maps.

Apologies in advance if I came off as sounding rude, I just need to get backgrounds for a Fallout sprite comic I'm doing and this issue is making me wish I had decided not to go through with it.

As far as I remember these assets are not available in current Reloaded Mapper or client so that is the reason why you can not see them.

You could try to redownload Mapper or maps but it probably will not work.

1. Reloaded Mapper with various maps: https://forum.fonline-reloaded.net/index.php?topic=10031.0
2. Fallout 1 Converted maps: https://fodev.net/forum/index.php/topic,29370.0.html

I figured as much. The way I got the Fallout 1 maps to work properly with Dims Mapper2 was extracting Fallout 1's critter.dat and master.dat files and putting the contents inside the data folders of a second Fallout 2 client. I tried that with Reloaded's Mapper and it doesn't work at all. Hence this suggestion thread; the Reloaded Mapper comes with Fallout 1 maps packaged in but they cannot be read properly.

They can't be read correctly because there're some differences F1 <-> F2 map formats and in object's prototypes. Included maps with FO1_* and FO2_* prefixes are not reworked after conversion and you have to do it on your own.

BTW. This is not a game suggestion. Try find the answer (or ask about it) on fodev.net forum or at least go there: https://forum.fonline-reloaded.net/index.php?board=27.0
