Once again about translation
« on: April 17, 2018, 12:20:54 am »
Hello.

I am russian and i often stream Reloaded
People who whants to play in Reloaded ask me at youtube about translation

lack of translation creates a barrier to the influx of new russian players

So i need to translate Dialogs into russian
Firstly Hub, Junktown and tutorial location

I dowloaded Reloaded 2nd Session Source

for example all_alco.fodlg

and add translation to it

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
[comment]

[data]
lang=engl

[dialog]
&
1 1000 None 0 #
2 1010 @
2 2000 None 0 &

[engl]
{100}{}{Drunk}
{200}{}{You see a drunk.}
{210}{}{This guy's had way too much to drink.}
{1000}{}{Predialogue installations}
{1010}{}{Answer text}
{2000}{}{@@Urp.@@Glug-glug-glug.@@I needed that.@@Mmm-hmmm.@@How dry I am}

[russ]
{100}{}{Алкаш.}
{200}{}{Вы видите алкаша.}
{210}{}{Этот парень слишком много выпил.}
{1000}{}{Predialogue installations}
{1010}{}{Answer text}
{2000}{}{@@Кряхтит.@@Жадно глотает.@@То, что доктор прописал.@@Хм-хм.@@И ни в одном глазу.}

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Сan be mailed to me by mail hub*.fodlg, junktown*.fodlg and *.fodlg files of Tutorial location?

cvet actually implemented some language support there, but I really doubt it works well. Also it's TREMENDOUS amount of work to translate even the most important strings.

It's gonna be better if russians just learn English. They will need it. To survive under  Stal Len Putin-The-Eternal. Lol :)

There are fonline servers around with implemented more than one or even more language versions, so that is not impossible task nor problem with engine limitations, just need few determined guys to make it real.
Not mention fallout mods which contain usually more content than fonline games and which have been translated by spontaneous community effort.

Other fonline servers are much smaller in terms of content that would have to be translated. Reloaded currently has almost 1300 dialogue files. Good luck with translating even half of it. Also there are other things to translate like item\location descriptions and other stuff.
Then make sure that every update gets translated as well.

It's next to impossible to maintain translations and that's why we decided to not do it at all.

It's not so hard, and more importantly not impossible but it can take lot of time.

I saw FO-MSG files in official FOnline: Reloaded's Mapper so he can start from there. You can also compare S2 and S3 dialogues and list here those which are the same for both seasons. If someone really want to translate them to his national language he will do that part first and then you can send to him the rest of files to translate.

Sorry, no offense, but thats plain BS.

Not even commerical studios are having an easy time translating crpg's.

As can be seen in their struggles, to voiceover their projects.

Much content (text lines) -> much effort -> much time -> much price -> price equals manpower and/or time.

But you could offer to pay/donate for said service, from what I caught up, it's not as hard to hire willing personal in 2018/modern times, according to a former firend and amateur developer. And don't pick it up in an arrogant tone, it's just simply a solution, whetever realistic one or not.

But saying "it's not hard" is plain bs and not true to reality.

You can't talk about prices or time in 100% free project made by hobbyists.
And ofc I'll stay with my "it's not so hard"

An example of "not so hard" work @SDK Reloaded S2, with regional characters @391 rev (new fonts for polish alphabet).

Of course you are entitled to your opinion and I'm not trying to alter it.
I'm sharing mine.
Infact, its probably better if you keep yours, as opposition can create dynamics and progress is better than deadlock.
