I've noticed a number of times, when you spawn to a base or encounter with a vehicle, occasionally the trunk is not accessible, changing spawn positions on bases then allows access to the trunk, only tried this with cockroach at the moment.
Example - Mansion vehicle spawn points, only spawns on the west side of the base allow access to trunk.
