Wally's extended text description appears to be a copy of Earl the Scout. Both are involved in the bunker quest. Assume Earl's desc got copied to Wally by mistake.

Registration and Login Help

Live Chat for More Help
You can get the fastest help by chatting with the community live via our Discord chat. On forum, click the Chat link on the top menu bar.

Account Types
  • Forum accounts used for posting messages on the game's forum only.
  • Character accounts used for playing the game itself.
  • Wiki accounts for helping us maintain this game's wiki.

This game has it's own forum and you can register a forum account for posting messages there. Registering on the forum is not tied in any way with logging into the game itself. Forum registration:
followed by some questions...

To log into the game, you must register a character via the game client's registration screen. When successful, write down your password. Game registration:

If you're new here and want to help with this wiki, great! We advise you first to have fun playing the game, fully explore its features and read this wiki a lot. Know this wiki well before you start editing it.

Login Trouble
Sometimes people register a forum account and expect it to work for logging into the game itself. This does not work. Character registrations are not tied in any way to forum accounts. To register a character, launch the game client, and click the Registration button. Configure your character's build, choose a name and a password. Then click done, and notice the on-screen text message to see if it worked. If your registration is successful, the new character name will show up in the login field.

If you're trying to log in a character and the password isn't working, refer back to your written notes to verify you're using the proper password. (You did write it down, right?)

If your password is still not working, hold down the Control key while on the login screen to see the hidden password, and verify you've been typing it correctly.

If you still cannot log into the game, check this page to make sure the game has not been wiped and a new season started since the last time you logged in.

Password Resets
Do not bother anyone to get a password reset. If you lose a password, consider it gone until you remember. The game "staff" here are not paid anything, and no money is being made on this game. It's free and thus support is scaled accordingly.

Trouble Registering a Character
While in the registration screen trying to register a new character, watch the on-screen text messages for errors. Common errors include:
  • Missing or bad choice of character name/password
  • Choose 3 Tag Skills means you tagged less than 3 skills as your primary skills.
  • Wrong SPECIAL data

Wrong SPECIAL data errors can occur for various reason and the message gives no further details, so you have to figure it out. You're not allowed, for example, to choose Bruiser but then bump your ST down under 5.

HINT: Write down all of your passwords and other game-related login info.

General Game Discussion / Congrats to XanaX!
« on: March 29, 2017, 04:52:14 pm »
I started 6 years ago and have been very careful not to let anyone sneak-tag me back to a tent. I also never had a car stolen, even once. People have tried. I always notice taggers. I'm too careful. I always see them and kick them out.

But today that changed!

A big congratulations to XanaX!

You are the first and only person to successfully ever see one of my private (messy) tent locations! And to steal a car from me!

rip 6 years - i'll start over lol

So...i was going to reward you, especially since you failed to get my vertibird out of there (it's my flying bank, currently with 4M caps), found no caps or tent maps, missed all of my motion sensors, but you chose a car instead. I paid 1k caps for that lol. I guess that's your prize? Anyway, wow all i can say is wow - you got me. Wow.

Work In Progress: This is an attempt to build a gallery of existing maps. The purpose is to provide map-makers a way to quickly reference maps by file name. This might help where anyone works toward expanding the random map pool.

Bugs / [Map]Bunker Base: 2 bugs(low)
« on: March 19, 2017, 04:18:17 pm »
Bug 1 of 2
This shows a "dead hex" at the player's bunker base. It's a hex that appears as normal ground hex in the wide open (shown here in red, next to the guy in power armor), but for some reason cannot be accessed:

Bug 2 of 2
The meeting table inside the bunker's conference room has a weird corner. If you stand at the end, like this guy in power armor, your head will be missing - covered up by table. Move 1 hex away and your head comes back:

Faction Announcements / Custom Faction Names
« on: February 18, 2017, 03:44:02 pm »
Custom Faction Names

In this thread, players can request their own custom faction names, and otherwise provide names to add more variety to the list. There are already a lot of names available, but if you want a specific name for your new faction, it can be added.

Procedure
* First look through the existing list of available Faction Names. To see the whole list, use this in-game command in a character's chat bar: ~ffn

* The list is more easily reviewed out-of-game, so press F2 to write the output to a txt file in your game directory. If you want to start your faction sooner rather than later, then choose a name from that list.

* If however you're willing to wait a few weeks (or months) for a custom faction name, first use this in-game command to check to see if the name you want is already used: ~factionnames
Again, F2 will write the output to a text file in your game directory.

* If you're sure you want a specific name, and it's not in the above lists, then request the custom name according to the following:

Rules
It's an admin chore to add your custom faction name requests, so here's the deal now offered. Make it easy to do, and we're more likely to do it. Observe these:
* Names need to be under 25 characters long. This includes spaces and apostrophes.
* Use proper case when typing names. ex: Turbo Dudes, not turbo dudes.
* No spelling errors.
* No joke names.
* Religious names are more scrutinized, so if they are even slightly offensive, they get skipped.
* No names that troll other names.
* No stupid names. Help us keep the list uncluttered with names nobody really wants.
* No porn-related names, or otherwise disgusting or perverted names.
* Expect admins to skip/ignore names that are judged "under par".

Recyclable Names
If you're a known veteran, you will likely get whatever name you want that meets these requirements, even if you're the only one who will likely want that name in the future. However, if you're new here and you request a name that only you will ever appreciate, please do not request it yet. Ideally, we want a list of names that are not single-player specific. Many new players quit after 45 days. The list should not forever be cluttered with unused names that nobody else wants. (Purging old/bad names is also a chore.)

Remember a Few More Points
* If requested names cannot be copied and pasted as-is, for example because they require spelling corrections, then don't expect admins to add those names because nobody wants to make your corrections for you. Type it right or it likely gets ignored.
* If you break rules above, expect your names to be skipped, and possibly post to be deleted.
* No complaining. Game is free, and there's already tons of worthy names in the list.
* If your requested name gets skipped, you can appeal. Send PM to Henry on this forum.

If you earn a reputation as a joker in this thread, or otherwise give admins a reason to start ignoring all of your requests/suggested names, because for example too many of your suggested names do not pass admin scrutiny, then all of your names might get overlooked. It takes time to do this task, and with no pay, so consider carefully what you post in this thread.

THESE RULES SUBJECT TO CHANGE AT ANY TIME. CHECK REGULARLY.

Names in the New Queue
* The Danger Brothers
* Natives
* Swedish Mengquisition
* Psycho

Names Already Added Recently
* Hell's Kitties
* Gulag Survivors
* Vault 9
* Die Uberspasten
* Bulgarian Force
* Sons of Liberty
* The League of Industry
* The Preservation Union
* Arcadian Flies
* Nuka-Cola Corporation
* Flat Earth Society (a gift for Amita Rush lol)
* Alianza del Norte
* Followers of the Egg
* Preppers Team
* The Union of Egoists
* Sigma Council
* Republic of Jim

General Game Discussion / PK and APK: Let's Clear the Air...
« on: February 09, 2017, 06:28:27 pm »
"All murders are killings, but not all killings are murders." -many wise men

MMO = An online game where players all over the world can connect simultaneously and work cooperatively in teams to do various things like: beat hard PvE quests together, and maybe team up and fight each other. Of course, such a machine is always fragile. Some player behavior tests the limits. Managing that is quite problematic. FOnline is free, thus it will likely always be understaffed and thus under-managed. This leaves us with a harsher-than-usual environment where bad behavior is mostly unchecked most of the time. So the jackasses here are able to misbehave much more intensely than in other MMOs. The resulting hostile environment is perceived as "harsh", and harsh here is praised. You learn to embrace it or you end up quitting.

PK = The greater majority of players here are Player Killers, those who use the game to express their own real-life hatred or anger issues, by causing as much grief on other players, while otherwise mostly ignoring the game's explorable content. Their intent is not to enjoy the game itself, but to grief others by committing as many in-game murders as they can, and wreck all attempts of others to otherwise play the game and enjoy its content. Their brutality will often seem blind, with total disregard of the injurious effect on the player population. However, this definition will not suit a typical PK. Instead, they might say a PK kills everything, without discretion, because this game is too harsh for talk. Or bullets are the only way to survive player encounters. Or everyone killed me so many times, so now i kill everyone back. (And other attempts to justify bad behavior.) Difficulty: easy, since morality plays little role.

APK = A small minority, the Anti-Player-Killers are those who oppose the PK play-style. Difficulty: Hard; it's always harder to be one of the good-guys.

Both fight. Both kill. Both do PvP. Both do TC. If done properly, an APK's kills are justified, whereas a PK's kills are not.

An Example of the Difference
Two guys meet at a chess club and agree to play each other in a game of chess. They both go get drinks first and find a table. They flip a coin to determine who will go first. They both seem friendly and start to chat a bit as they set up the pieces. They compare chess scores and get some idea of which one of them might probably win. Guy #1 opens with a classic move: King's Pawn to King 4, and then looks up at his opponent. He really hopes this guy is good because he loves chess and practices a lot. He prefers a good tough game, but losing makes him really think about how the defeat happened. He loves chess. Guy #2 looks at the board, and thinks. Obviously he is considering something unconventional. What could it be? Guy #1 is APK, and Guy #2 is PK. This becomes evident when Guy #2 makes his move: he grabs his side of the table and flips it up into the air with loud maniacal laughter. His face contorts as if he is demonically possessed and yells "VICTORY! MUHAHWHAW!" All the pieces go flying. Their drinks crash to the floor and splash everywhere. Guy #1 is sitting there in shock. Other guys at the Chess Club meeting look bewildered. Guy #2 strips down naked and runs out in the street in front of a bus and dies.

More
PvE (Players-vs-Environment). The quest content is a prime example. Finding caves, hunting lockers for blueprints, fighting robots in Glow, navigating the Military Bunker SE (get that implant!) - these are all PvE things.

PvP (Players-vs-Players). Examples include Town Control, Turn-Based Traps, suicide bombers, inter-faction spies/infiltrators, etc.

Common Misconceptions
* PvE players don't like PvP. Wrong: most players like a mix of both.

* APKs are just as bad as PKs since they both kill. Wrong: refer to quote at top. Murder is a killing that is not justifiable. To kill someone invading your home however, is justifiable.

* APKs don't like PvP.  Wrong.

* PKs are like anyone else - they just don't play like you, so you're complaining. Wrong: We're different people with different motivations for being here. Some people are constructive-minded, and some are destructive-minded. Anyone can be both, and most are a mix, but APK lean toward helping people, while PKs lean toward victimizing people, and both have their reasons.

* PKs are totally evil and are never helpful. Wrong: nobody is totally evil, and even most hard-core PKs have helped at least a few people here. They get in helpful moods, are often highly intelligent, charismatic (in real life), friendly when they want to be (just like anyone else), are very creative (look at the awesome animated signature banner images in Khans' posts), and more good things lol.

* APKs are all a bunch of boring, stick-up-their-butts self-righteous losers who think that being good in a game somehow counts in real-life. Partially Wrong: lol. So we're better than you. So what. lol. I hear plenty of tards have decent jobs. (Okay just kidding.) Seriously, who knows why some people default to being good while others default to being evil. My guess is some of you simply lack a proper upbringing, while others were abused. But bottom line is, how you treat others is only your choice.

* Only an APK would write such a post in this forum. Probably True since no PK wants to face the truth that their victimizing play style might actually be a cause in the downfall of FOnline. (Over the years, i have watched players run newps out of the game as fast as they can, and then stand in an empty Hub and ask where is everyone? Insanity and/or stupidity.)

Conclusion
It's a mix. No PK here is totally evil, and sometimes does good things. Meanwhile no APK is totally good. People will surprise you. Sometimes the best things are done by the worst people (or those you think are worst). Sometimes a hero-saint will give up and go to the dark side. But do not think that APK means nothing. APK is the minority, but real and significant. People like to say things like, "well i hate Khans, but game is better with them." Okay then apply that principle to an APK team and it must be even more true, since the imbalance is clearly opposite of the APK population.

Now that we all see this more clearly, let's see how PKs attempt to writhe and wriggle out of it.

Survival Guides / Build Advice, a Guide
« on: January 31, 2017, 05:54:12 pm »
A new guide has been added to the wiki, called Build Advice.

Now when you meet someone who clearly needs help getting started, rather than point them to the wiki in general, you can point them to this guide in particular. It's not everything, but it's something.

I have also added a new Build Template (Template:Build). It's about finished, so a few workable builds will be added too, for additional direction.

To veteran players: your worthy feedback will drive some edits to that guide, so please provide.

Character builds / Base Defender
« on: January 21, 2017, 03:43:19 am »
Are you kinda new? Hopefully you get your own private base (DIY for 10k caps).

Sometimes your base gets attacked though. At times like that, it sure would be nice to have some guards stationed there to help defend it. NPC Human Companion followers are weak, but not so weak if you have a bunch of them there all standing at attention, armed and ready to shoot enemies. Level them later as you want to, but meanwhile park them at your private base and let them serve a purpose.

This build is to only Level 24 (since it's so easy to reach level 24) and is meant to get 3 Companion followers. So you could make 3 of these, for example, and end up with 9 NPCs guarding your base.

ST 5
PE 1
EN 10
CH 1
IN 5
AG 9
LK 9

Tag Skills: Big Guns 200, First Aid 125, Speech 150
Traits: Good Natured + [pick your fav]
Perks: Ad-Rush, Tough, Even Tougher, LG, LG+, BRoF, More Ranged Damage, [pick your fav]
Weapon: Avenger
Combat Drugs: Nuka Cola, Psycho, Beer
Important Support Perks: Speaker, Magnetic Personality

It takes a while to find worthy companions, with EN 10 and AG 10. You'll be able to get 2 of them without any special items, but to get the 3rd one requires a few things: +1 Charisma Armor, Mirrored Shades, Mentats and Beer. If you get a BG companion, give them an LSW. If you get SG, give them a grenade launcher. If you get an EW companion, give them any plasma or laser weapon. Throwing might work too. I avoid HtH companions since they get damaged so often by friendly fire.

Anyway, park this character in the base and leave him there with the NPC guards (maybe parked in a tent). If your base gets attacked, switch to him as needed and DEFEND YOUR TERRITORY!

Alternately use him on the GR mutant cave quest if you need some practice in combat. Bring his followers into the quest for some craziness.

Character builds / Wiki Editor Build
« on: January 11, 2017, 02:12:00 am »
This is not the only build for editing the wiki, but it works for me:

S (Spelling) = 5
P (Punctuation) = 1
E (Editing) = 10
C (Carpal Tunnel) = 1
I (Imagination) = 4
A (Annotation) = 9
L (Lore) = 9

Trait 1: I prefer Near-Sighted because i like the +5 boost to up-close focus which really pays off over time, and i don't mind the headache penalty because who cares if i'm drinking enough beer.

Trait 2: For me, Colorblind is not that bad. Or maybe it is. I can't really tell.

Alternate Trait: You could try Bloody Nose instead of Colorblind, but so far i don't see a clear connection between the increase in editing time and the increase in bloody noses. Needs more testing.

Tag Skill 1: Big Chair
Tag Skill 2: Poetry. An obvious choice.
Tag Skill 3: Indoorsman so you can keep on editing even in bad weather.

Perks: Head-Rush, Comedy, Even Funnier, Beerdrinker, Beerdrinker+, Bonus Rate of Pizza, Hiccups, More Wireless Keyboard.

Intended Drugs: Beer. Green Tea optional.

By level 135, you'll have high Overweight, and a YouTube Threshold of 5. Don't worry about Blood Pressure or Eyestrain. Works best with Annotation and Lore implants.

Leveling
Start editing your own faction's wiki page to hit level 3, and do the Orphaned Pages quest to reduce the number of non-linked pages. Then craft templates to level 6 and try the Missing Image Files quest. Standardize headings on any pages you find to get to level 9, and you should be ready for the Uncategorized Pages quest. Then fix Broken Redirects to level 12 and start correcting other editors' spelling errors to level 15. By then you can grind on Wanted Pages to level 18.

When ready, write a guide for new players. You will get lost in time and become utterly disoriented with your purpose here, thus winning the game.

Suggestions / Ideas for Season 4
« on: January 05, 2017, 06:38:53 pm »
Assuming devs don't even want to see any more ideas now, because its enough just getting ready for S3, here is an idea that can be ignored for now, for later consideration.

Faction-Specific Quests
Anyone in this community can make maps and write dialogue files. If they're good enough, devs can add them to game. So why not add a faction name check? This way, a faction's members could make content that becomes part of their own faction-specific questline, that you can only ever see if you get invited to that faction.

Add ability for a faction leader to get an NPC Quest-Giver to move to a faction base (just stand there) and serve faction-specific quests via dialogue to Recruits.

If then it's just a matter of factions building their own maps/dialogue (has to be good quality, and stand the test of lore), then we'd have a new element of competition: which factions have the coolest quests?

(Get quest story approved by devs first before you do all the work, because they are picky about lore/canon.)

Game Help / Images Needed
« on: January 05, 2017, 04:16:31 pm »
As wiki editors work on improving the wiki, we sometimes are missing image files. If you are inclined to help, this is one image we need now:

This is a supermutant boss but the image is not correct - it is from the southeast angle, and all our NPC images are from the southwest angle. (You might notice most NPC image file names are cryptic and typically end with _sw because the angle is southwest.) The image above is the wrong angle. If you know how to find and extract images from the game files, please help us by finding this missing image.

You can earn Wiki Credits for this. Kilgore has approved the Wiki Credit program and we now have a small inventory of special items to be used as awards.

Earn Wiki-Credits!
Want to help with wiki editing but don't want to log into wiki and do all those edits? Here is how you can help, the fun way:

As you go to various towns, you meet certain NPCs who have names. Take a few notes about each NPC as you meet them and PM that info to me. I can use it to update wiki, which has always lacked most of the NPC pages. I'm on a personal campaign to fix this. Here is what i need about each NPC:

* Their full name
* Hit Points
* Location (what town, in what area)
* Mouse-over description in chat bar
* Extended description when you use "binoculars" on them
* Will they Barter via the Barter window? Yes/No
* What do they buy and sell: N/A, specific item, Limited, or tons-o-stuff (these answers work best)
* Any relevant notes you can add about this NPC (Example: buys spears but only via dialogue.)
* Visual (avatar) (see 3rd post below for a match)

Do your best so i don't have to do all this running around myself. I will add their quests, training, perks, etc myself but please mention anything you think might get missed.

Duplicates
Check the next post below to avoid submitting NPC info that someone else has already submitted.
Check the wiki to see if your NPC is already there. Even if he/she is there, you get credit for providing missing info.

How to Earn Wiki Credits
For each NPC's worth of data you provide, that leads to the addition of a new wiki page that we did not already have*, or that allows us to update an existing NPC page that lacks the NPC template**, you will earn 5 Wiki Credits! Cover a whole town of NPCs and get 25 Bonus Wiki Credits!

Cash in your credits for cool items.

Value of Wiki Credits (WC)
See the forth post in this thread for list of items available via this program.

*Info must be complete enough that i don't have to go there myself and meet that NPC to get missing info.
**Template:NPC is not in use on all NPC pages, but working on it.

Toxic Caves / Include HtH in Quest Requirements
« on: October 14, 2016, 04:56:47 pm »
As it is now, this quest can be started in Hub via dialogue with Jacob in Hub's Oldtown. It is a message quest where you become the middleman between Jacob in Hub and Marshal in Gunrunners. You start it easily enough - just need CH 4 (boosted with Mentats/beer etc).

However, to speak with Marshal, you must meet additional requirements. From wiki:

* At least 50% skill in either Small Guns, Big Guns, or Energy Weapons to be able to talk to Marshal.

This suggestion is to include Close Combat in Marshal's requirements, because HtH characters hit a dead end when they try this quest - Marshal will not talk with them.

This problem was misunderstood before.
