Returning loot drop without hexing would make the game even less playable than it is now.

There are 3 big things involved now with declining player population:

1) General FOnline Decline
Add all player counts for all FOnline servers and you get a FOnline Grande Total. That total has been declining for 6 years. I don't know why, but it has nothing to do with updates, servers, developers, crafting options or other features. It's just a number that is slowly going down over time. So it's ridiculous when players of one server yell taunts at other servers saying "yours is dying" since they are all experiencing the same decline. This is a bad thing.

2) Jackass Migration
The PvP-No-Loot-Drop update, combined with some account bans (because jackasses were cheating and devs caught them and did what devs are supposed to do), led to a migration of the worst type of players in online gaming: jackasses who do not play the game for its intended content, but instead use the game to express their own personal hatred issues. This reason is a good thing.

3) It's Summertime
Every summer, as said before, we see a temporary decline. This is a good thing too, since it's healthier to play outside.

Now if you combine all of these together, you might get the illusion that "this server sucks", but use your brain, dissect the problem, and realize your role in this story.

Meanwhile, someone is using his brain. His name is Corosive and he's a developer busy working his aspartame off to add more content and features. The guy never stops here, slaving to improve the game, while some people just can't stop talking crap and misdirecting blame.

This game is awesome. And it's slowly getting better (population decline not withstanding), and you can help: log off of this forum and go do some advertising, or learn to dev and design new content, or make maps with the mapper tool or write dialogues with that editor - all free for download now, but you gotta stop posting on forum to get that work done.

Now if you'll excuse me, i'm off to edit this game's wiki (for you!)

Okay, here we go again:

1.) 1) General FOnline Decline

Yeah I know, all those servers that saw more than half their population leave over the space of a few short months. The way people talk you'd think it was only this one and yes of course it's nothing to do with updates, science has proven this.

2) Jackass Migration

Naturally, even though the decline in players has nothing to do with updates the no loot update that only smart people understand drove away a significant number of players, but still nothing to do with updates.

And of course the jackasses that were finally banned and were back playing on new characters/friends alts the very same day caused a significant reduction too. The maths is complicated but basically if 10 people got banned and then logged on with different characters the server population would decline by 10, Henry can explain better but best not ask as it's too complicated for the average lay person.

3) It's Summertime

Yeah, definitely.

4) Other Business

Currently my role in the story is providing an alternative to the loot hamster/roleplayer narrative which is touted by a remaining minority of players and apparently misdirecting blame away from the people who actually caused this mess in the first place. (i.e. evil PvP players)

Oh and thank you for all your hard work editing a wiki I currently have no need of and am unlikely to in the future. I don't want you to feel like I don't appreciate it.

Yeah, let's ignore the fact that many summers have passed with plenty of server activity before last September. I am sure that on this occasion it is summer that is the problem and not all the other things it is pointless to list because they can just be fixed by telling ourselves that the game is awesome.

Perhaps I was unclear but it was not the fact that the update failed which is the problem for 90% of the server population (whom the good people remaining don't want back, I know) but the content of it and the further plans to revitalise the server with more of the stuff that choked the life out of it in the first place.

Nice ideas and I salute your motivation but honestly the game is empty because it is shit, no matter what certain folk and their discord pals say about it. And the last almost update told us it’s not getting better any time soon and if that wasn’t enough to put the last 20 people off playing then just go and check out Corrosive’s Trello page and see what the priorities for development are, seriously - do it, the mind boggles.

And then what would you say in the advert? “Have fun grinding up a character to complete fetch jobs and quests then....er...that’s it”? You see, maybe it would work and 500 players come but they would soon quit due to the lack of a reason to do anything in the game anymore. Sometimes I actually log in and try to enjoy the retarded utopia this game was turned into but I normally learn my lesson within the hour and do something else instead. The issue was never getting people, it was keeping them and there is less reason to play now than ever.

Fellow players,

Please pay no attention to the above post, the very suggestion that this awesome game is deficient in any way is completely untrue and is certainly not linked to players leaving the game. How do know for example that some didn’t die in a terrorist attack or converted to Buddhism and renounced all worldly things? These possibilities, however remote, are things we need to consider especially when the alternative is blaming it on all the wonderful changes that those ungrateful bastards failed to appreciate. I think the lesson here is to think outside the box and stop spoiling it for the 20 or so players that are still left.

If anybody else starts to have unauthorised thoughts like the rubbish posted above and the age old wisdom of “stop crying” isn’t enough to correct it then repeat the mantra “The game is awesome - we are having a blast!” 7 times and that should sort you out.

In the meantime all devoted players should run several sandboxed alts to prove that the low player count is all lies and please wait patiently for the promised updates which I am confident will be just as good as the last lot.

Don't mention it, I mean this session was clearly created to appeal to the broad spectrum of players who had stuck with it over the years rather than just a small section of loot hamsters and roleplaying sycophants and we all feel we that our opinions are counted equally and our ideas taken on board, so it really is the least we can do.

Nice post, I also thought that some of the extra quest content/fetch jobs would have been a much needed addition to the game rather than the basis for whole new one but the only kind of feedback welcome is the kind were they are told how awesome the game is now that it's empty and TC towns are now supposedly dominated by a faction who wouldn't even PVP if there were any real competition and risk.

But fear not! There are some nifty new quests and fetch jobs on the way to revitalize the server. Sorted!

That's racist!

You can't say that! You have to say it's 'negative cultural discrimination' now.

Don't worry about a thing, make any build you like and it won't make much difference, all danger and risk has as been nerfed out of existence.Probably nobody will try to kill you, unfortunately. Welcome to the politically correct, health and safety concious jungle that is Reloaded Session 3.

Depends on the goals they've set for themselves. None of us can tell for sure. Having a server with narrow pool of players, focused on killing geckos and shit, could be the goal as well.

I'd say the numbers are valid regardless, there clearly was an expectation that people would like the game and play it. But if the goal is a narrow pool of players killing geckos then I think that's been achieved, so stage 2 must surely be to make the server private so that nobody comes back and spoils it?

Sure, we all know that online games are meant to be played alone.
I've never said so. I just pointed out how player count is important for devs of this particular server. Therefore moaning about low players number is invalid in this case.

Or the numbers could be a valid indicator of success however they try to spin it. Nobody likes to admit they fucked up but the facts are changes were made and most players didn't like them as evidenced by their lack of presence and living in a discord bubble surrounded by 20 or so groupies doesn't change that.

Oh yes the game has achieved a level of divine perfection never even dreamed of by it's humble player-base. Although it could be taken as criticism to suggest that it was not perfect in it's previous incarnation and as we know, criticism is synonymous with apostasy so perhaps we ought to say that finally the game has brought us to a new level of perfection which is in a harmonious parallel with the state of sublime perfection it was in previously? That way we can kiss arse and not upset anybody.

Anyway, let's look at the joyous gifts which season 3 has bestowed upon us!

Fetch Jobs! - Seriously, this is what fonline is all about and by the grace of god it now accounts for 50% of player activity in the game. And people are seriously complaining about this? Well, we all know where complaints end up so stop spoiling it for everybody. Players are having a blast, somewhere anyway, probably in a quest map. Which brings us to:
Quests as replacement for PvP People only ever did PvP due to no quests in fonline, it's been proven in tests. Now there is almost no excuse to be caught in a public location by another player and even the unlikely event of that happening has been written out of exsistence by divine providence! (see below)
'The No Loot Miracle" Yes! Praise be! The heresy of risk in PvP has been abolished! Now we can pose in places other than the hub with absolutely no risk at all, ever! Even stealing has been taken care of to ensure that we can all do what we always wanted and not have to risk that horrible sense of mourning when our precious gear was stolen looted by evil heathens other players. And as if our cup wasn't already pissing it's contents all over the floor, just wait until T4 is enabled! I know you're already picturing yourself running around everywhere, not giving a shit in your HPA. Go on, picture it, it's okay.
Destiny of Town Control as Crafting and Bartering Activity Realised! Perhaps the greatest gift of all, for years the town control timers were misinterpreted as an invitation to barter and craft and many noobs holy children were killed and worst of all, they lost their fucking gear! Never again will this be tolerated! Plus for absolutely no reason when you go to fight craft you will instantly have a gang of NPCs ready to defend you so it's not as if there is no PvP it's just that PvP has been reworked to give NPCs a bigger a role in it, which of course is what PvP has always been about.

So there you go, there's the evidence and in case there is any further heresy confusion: Player numbers are in no way an indication of the success of these glorious updates and any suggestions to that effect are, in fact, witchcraft.

Well, I did all those things and while, as I've said before the quest stuff is nice, it is no substitute for the PvP and vibrant community there was before.

And yes I was aware this is a 'beta test' (albeit a very long one) and in keeping with the fine tradition of tests, what's happening now is known as "feedback".

Yes I think the difference between a developer and a player confuses him, though I think the aversion to criticism (otherwise known as 'crying') is something that has been part of the culture for a long time.
