Toxic Caves / Brotherhood quest help

So, I just got the brotherhood of steel quest to either help repair the hummer, or help the wounded soldier. I went to help the wounded soldier around the military base, but accidentally left the encounter when I got into it. Is it possible the encounter can happen again, or am I screwed?
