Game Help / Random encounter Karma question
« on: October 16, 2014, 03:13:57 pm »
Hey guys, I'm currently levelling my character up in random encounters and I'm just wondering if anybody knows what human NPCS won't affect karma when you attack them.
The ones I currently know of are:
  • Maruders
  • Raiders
  • NCR Army
  • Powder Gangers
  • Robbers
  • Highwayman

Game Help / Re: Any advice for a decent Big Guns PVP build?

Then i am very impressed. If you did that much work already, you're off to a solid start. Congrats!

I am curious that you went back to the old 2238 wiki to get this build. The Reloaded wiki does not have builds, so as a newer player would you say it would be a good idea for us to post some decent support builds like your "Universal Crafter" idea on the Reloaded wiki?

Thank google for that aha, I did previously play the 2238 version but only for a very short time. I think it would be a great idea, it surely helped me out! :) I picked the universal crafter as at that point I wasn't sure what play style I wanted for my main character and now I have everything I need :D.

My more general advice for anyone starting this game is to first start a worker support character to get all set up to support additional characters. For me, he is a miner, crafter, salesman. He's ST 9 (10 on drugs), fast (15 Action Points) so he mines materials quickly, has high PE too so can gather junk better. He's the guy i use to build a network of tents all over the map, and get a private base where i keep those maps. Then when i add fighters, they go to that base and read all the maps as step 1. At level 1, they all immediately see all my tents, have safe places to park cars, and they have guns and armor and ammo because the worker supplies them. He sells the overages and also makes the caps which buy cars for the fighters, skill books, stuff for sale on forum etc.

So miner/crafter/salesman first to get your personal economy cranking. Then fighters after that.

9.8.10.1.1.10.1, Fast Shot + Heavy Handed
Tag: Small Guns, Lockpick, Outdoorsman
Also: Get Close Combat up later too to make use of high ST and HH trait.
Perks: A-Rush, Toughness, Even Tougher, Action Boy (2), Lifegiver (3)
Drugs: Jet, Buffout, Nuka Cola, Psycho, cigs (and beer optional)

Notes: He mines LQ mats, but also gathers junk for crafting and can open lockers when he finds them while gathering junk. Can fast-shot enemies with SGuns (SG skill doesn't have to be very high for this), or use a Mega Power Fist to do knockdowns. Use a Jet antidote to switch to HQ mines - he'll work slower but be tougher.

Optional: last LG perk is nice (+40 HP!) but consider Bonus Hand-to-Hand Attacks with Close Combat at 180 for faster punching.

Again, just an idea way i do it, but each guy has his own way.

Thanks for your suggestion, but I already have a half assed miner/crafter/trader character which i briefly followed from this old link. http://fo2238.fodev.net/wiki/Universal_Crafter. In my opinion, it does the job and has more than enough carry weight and is okay at occasional fighting but I've already gathered more than enough materials HQ and LQ to make everything I need including high level weapons with blueprints. Now it's just levelling a new "fighter" character xD.

You might get such answers, but you might not. The thing is...builds are the science of the game. It's where the game is best read as a math puzzle, and most guys don't want to do your math for you. Most guys who could answer such questions have done this math for years now and, though this may seem selfish at first, they simply don't want to give you their answers. There is some secrecy with builds and some info is only known by an elite few.

Have fun figuring it out, just like the rest of us, and know that it's never done because there's always something more that you didn't think of yet, not to mention the devs change things. With so many combinations of factors all producing different results, all it takes is a slight change to one thing and the mechanics are all affected.

Note: the build i suggested, i have never even tried myself (yet). It's just what i (and friends) were dreaming up recently. It might suck actually. Best thing is to play with the planner online and use its calculator function over and over, make adjustments, study the perks, take notes, use the calculator again, scrap it and start over (again) - repeat until you think you know what you're doing. Register, level and test it.

That's completely fine It's just I wanted some advice since I'm still fairly new. This is to compare previous builds I've found and understand the concept of why this choice has been chosen such as low strength despite every weapon requiring a certain amount and relying on overboosting the small guns stats to make up for it while adding the bonus points to something more worthwhile.
I'm just trying to learn more about the game to try and make less mistakes right at the start and putting me at a disadvantage later on.

If it's a PvP build then Bonehead is a must. Adrenaline Rush and Stonewall would be a great addition too but that would require different SPECIAL than suggested.

With current build/implant/balance situation on server I would not make an avenger burster unless you got full set of implants and tones of armors and avengers with great bonuses, then you can go for semi-tank crit avenger build, otherwise avenger is shit and you will lose to most sg burster tanks, plasma tanks or sneakers.

Interesting point, how would these perks and traits affect PVP as opposed to the previously stated build and what special/build would you suggest to work alongside your suggestions?

Big Guns is okay, but i recommend Small Guns for a few reasons. Testing and comparing damage, the XL70 is excellent and compares with the Avenger well. But with SG you get many more weapon options including the P90 (also great for bursting), the M79 (fun with grenade launchers), Pancor Jackhammer shotguns, and Gauss weapons if you can find them.

So going with your PvP reference, i will suggest this:

ST 1, PE 9, EN 10, CH 1, IN 2, AG 10, LK 8

Small Frame + your choice (Fast Shot or maybe Loner)

Small Frame is standard issue. Fast Shot does no AP bonus for bursts, but gives +5 damage per attack overall, not much. Loner helps you level.)

Don't worry about low ST. You will compensate with higher SG skill (beyond level 32).

Drugs: Buffout, Nuka Cola, Psycho, cigs (beer optional)
On drugs, he will have ST 4, PE 6, EN 10, CH 1, IN 2, AG 10, LK 8
Sight 38, DR 35 before armor, DT 5, Carry Weight 80.

Sight 38 allows you to see beyond the range of any SG weapon in (burst mode) except Gauss.

Tag: Small Guns, First Aid, Outdoorsman

Perks
Level 3: Quick Recovery (or More Critical for crit bursting)
Level 6: Toughness (or Even More Critical for crit bursting)
Level 9: Even Tougher
Level 12: Lifegiver
Level 15: Lifegiver+
Level 18: Bonus Rate of Fire
Level 21: Lifegiver++
Level 24: (your choice)

Notes
At level 1, read 10 Scout books and you'll have OD 130
OD 50 allows Gecko Skinning. OD 75 allows Snakeater. OD 100 allows Ranger and Cautious Nature. OD 150 allows Pathfinder and Explorer (Scout optional). All available at level 1 if you tag OD and read 10 scout books.

Level 1, get Boneyard Guard for free boost to SG. Put all Skill Points into gun skill until level 18, put next Skill Points into OD to 150 at level 19. Then SP goes to FA to 100. Plan to get Doc to 100 by level 32. Boost gun skill beyond 180 after that. (Gun skill 300 max means you do zero deterioration to small gun weapons).

If you go with the crit perks, i think it's more fun. If so, the last perk can be Toughness. Then you are a crit bursting tank with high HP and high DR.

Having this high OD allows you to return to fights much faster/easier when you experience combat failures. It's always an irritation to try to return to a fight still in progress, hear the action in TeamSpeak, but keep getting into forced encounters causing delays because your OD is 28 or whatever.

By level 44, he should have Small Guns 220, FA 100, Doc 100, and OD 150, but don't stop there - keep going.

I see, thanks for the in depth detail It looks really good based off your description :D, but is there any downsides to this build? like who would be my worst enemy to play against purely based off their build and playstyle?

Game Help / Any advice for a decent Big Guns PVP build?
« on: October 14, 2014, 04:18:01 am »
Hello everyone, I'm fairly new and I'm about to make a new character solely relying on using Big guns and mainly bursting or other types of big guns to adapt to the situation (Rockets etc)
I've went through the forums and read a few builds from newbie guides and other people of have asked the same questions as well as gone through some builds on nitue's character planner. However some of these were quite old and I don't want to jump onto any build which may no longer be as effective.  I would really appreciate some more recent stable builds which can hold his own weight in a solo or team based PVP match while not being too extreme like dying in one hit.

It would also be a great help if you could explain why you think this build is good and the pros and cons of it. Thanks! :)
