News and Announcements / Re: To Reload the Reloaded

I like the idea of having advanced crafting tables in player bases.
And people would be all the time on their base? That just sound so bad for community
That is a good point, but it's already bad for the community when, if you're not part of one of the well known groups you'll get ganked when you go to an unsafe workbench, lose all your gear for crafting then get pissed off and rant about it in the thunderdome and/or ragequit the game if you're a newer player.
That's one of the reasons I haven't requested to join any of the bigger gangs. Everyone seems to be "my FORpenis is bigger than yours" "No it isn't" "yes it is noob" etc.

I like the idea of having advanced crafting tables in player bases. Or maybe be able to craft a super advanced tool kit or something that gives you ability to use an advanced work bench at an ordinary one.
People complain that they keep getting murdered or whatever, but the problem is, everyone, more or less, is already in a large, well known group, and a lot of people won't accept you if your gear is crap or whatever, so you go to AWB, on your own, with all that gear to build, then get murdered, again, can't make the gear, lose items needed to make it etc and it just keeps repeating.
Everyone just hoards all their good gear anyway so It wouldn't be too much of an issue if AWBs were easier to access. you'd still need to get the materials. it's not like accessing an AWB would immediately give you the good stuff, you'd still have to work at it.

It adds realism to some encounters. Like the powder gangers. It makes sense to be literally blown to pieces when 5+ of them are all flinging explosives at you, but I do agree, a lot of NPCs are unbalanced.

I suppose it's to stop everyone just farming all the damn time, but all the groups have all the best gear and just hoard it away anyway so.. eh.

I don't know what it'd take to implement this sort of thing,  but maybe a system such as a small-ish area for new players, PVP turned off, can't be stolen from etc. Basically make it pretty safe so you can get the hang of things before you hit, say, level 3 or 5. When you create a character you can choose if you want to start there, or start the game properly in one of the shit-pits with a quest giver right outside, like it is now, and you can't enter the area at all once you reach level 5.
I don't know. just an idea. Something like that MAY help new players want to stay.
Personally I just stuck with it. Got killed often, so didn't take any good gear anywhere.
Oh and don't carry money in your pack if you go to a town to buy something. Put it in a hand, so you can't have it stolen, then quickly swap it to your pack for trading (been gone since Christmas, not sure if you can pay with money in your hand now. Makes sense when you think about it. "Hey, I want to buy something. Let me just put this cash in my pocket so it'll magically teleport into your inventory when I say go")
Get a tent. Store stuff there. Make a second character for crafting so you can tool yourself up after death, allow both characters access to that tent so you don't have to piddle about with trading/dropping gear. And like everyone has said, use the Wiki. Some things are still out of date but for what you need it's a goldmine.

On that note, side question, anyone know what skill the 40mm grenade launcher uses? traps, throwing, big guns, small guns? In tactics it was small guns, is that still the case?

And this is why I don't take my vertibird anywhere.
Though with the upcoming wipe, I may as well fly it into someone, run around with a grenade down my pants, kill self and let them steal it. Not much point to being careful if it's all going to go "BOOM" soon.

do skins stay on your character even if you die?
Just wondering 'cause I saw a guy die 4 times in a row in NCR today and every time he returned, he had the exact same skin on (Super mutant)
Those kind of skins don't disappear after dead, they are from GMs.
Ah ok. So i take it the naff skins from caves like rags and stuff will disappear after death.

Quite a lot of raiders and wilders (but that could just be my shite luck) but they're not really an issue. No or leather armour.

TERRIFYING.
If you really hate NPCs attacking you, use Turn based :D
For safe footlocker hunt, and little help against PKs who want to take your treasures.
I was just messing around.  :D Found much better stuff in these locations, and I don't get horribly mauled by centaurs and floaters every two seconds.

Tools and Modifications / Re: Pretty useful "mod" for cave searching
« on: December 18, 2013, 12:12:14 am »
I'm not sure if I am doing anything wrong. I did all that was mentioned but everything looks the same, and the walls are still there.
I haven't gotten any error messages like I did with my UI mod, it's a zip archive and not a rar etc.
Items still have their normal look and the walls are still there.
Yeah same here. Isn't working.
Bugger.
But I am glad it's not just me. The first mod I downloaded simply wasn't an archive file, and I thought I had just cocked it up somehow, so now, if I get a mod and it doesn't work, I'm paranoid I've done it wrong again.

Does AP ammo actually have an effect?
I didn't notice a difference between 5mm AP and JHP when using an assault rifle. I remember AP ammo was bugged in Fallout 1 or 2 (can't remember which right now) but when shooting.. anything, I didn't notice a difference in damage.
AP ammo does effect to armored NPCs and players, JHP is better in general usage.

It's always better use AP ammo against players, because they have armors.

Info

5mm AP -> DR modifier -35%, decrease armor DR modifier by 35% (+ piercing)
5mm JHP -> DR modifier 40%, increase armor DR modifier by 40%
Cool. I did check the wiki first but like I said, I didn't notice much a difference but they weren't that armoured so I thought I better ask.
