Game Help / How to get into a game with my friend?

Me and my friend want to play together but whenever we start the game we cannot see each other or any other players. It is as if we are in games by ourselves. I did a little research on it, but couldn't find much. I checked the config files and saw something that said "ProxyHost = localhost". Could this be the issue? Is the game connecting me to a local host? Someone please help.
