FOnline: Shelter

Set in an alternate universe during the Great Winter, experience the wasteland in the year 2130 before the events of Fallout 1 take place. Featuring a theme of isolation and loneliness, play as a simple farm owner trying to survive the harsh realities of the Californian wasteland. Using the Reloaded 2nd Season source, explore a new take on an old world. Several locations were removed or redesigned all together to allow the player the chance at experiencing the game as a single player survival simulator, or host it themselves and turn the experience into something much more massive.

Collect Wood, Water, Meat, and many more resources to survive these harsh conditions! Expand, customize, and protect your Farm from the world around you, unlocking many more features as you progress and expand your farm.

Features over 10 new locations, and a brand new player base available for each player upon starting. Build and develop your very own Farm and watch it generate more, and more income with each successful action.

Read Manual

HOW TO PLAY
--------------------

Open up Server -> Run FOnlineServer.exe -> Push Start Server

If all goes well it will say "***   Starting game loop   ***"

(If not you will get an error message with the reason why)

Once server is running -> Open client -> Run FOnlineGL.exe (or Fonline.exe)

You may change your preferences using the FOConfig.exe program.
This is where you will modify screen size, hotkeys, etc.

Create your character, and experience FOnline: Shelter!

To Reset World/ Wipe

Open Server -> Save -> Delete all save files (do not delete folders)



To Also Delete Characters (Recommended to delete all pcs after wipe)

Open Server -> Save -> Clients -> Erase all files within the folder

UPDATE

So my fellow Khans and I have found a bug in the Shelter. If you do the quest "Cold in the Night" which leads into the quest "Reclaiming your Throne" and you tell your apprentice that you are not ready you can no longer continue with the quest. How do we fix this issue?

Haven't had a chance to look at the code today, but uh... guess you have to restart. Sorry. Will patch soon.

Patch is now available. Download, and install to:

FOnline-Shelter/Server/Dialogs -> Replace old player_farm.fodlg with the new one.

This is only necessary if you want to be able to "reject" the Water Man combat quest and come back later. Which isn't necessary, you can simply accept the quest and finish it whenever. But none the less, there is a small bug that is now fixed. Download if needed.

From what I read it's singleplayer, seprate from Reloaded project developed by Corosive.

Yeah, it's a separate standalone single player/coop adventure I made on my own after Kilgore released the new engine to the public. Reloaded 3rd season is coming shoon. But this is my own creation just for fun, to help kill time before release. Has some new content that will become familiar :P

It isn't designed to replace or compete with Reloaded. It's kind of like a DLC/mini-series in between major releases.

Looks great, I keep going back to all the old fallouts and get depressed when my fonline hotkeys don't work, and all the new functionality is missing.

It can. Technically. Biggest problem - imho - is converting humongous amount of dialogs from Fallout, plus fact that they are mixed tight with scripts, unlike how it's done in FOnline [where they are separated from the beginning]. If not that, you'd see Fallout  on FOnline long ago, as other parts are either lot easier to do or already done to some extend. Not harder than making own server, i'd say.

Still, saying it can't be done is not quite correct ;)

The biggest problem is licence for storyline - that's why. Technically everything can be done.

Edit: There is some way, but this have to be used as mod for Fallout and original version will be required.

I dont think so fallout coop would be a waste. It could be more popular among people outside fonline community because catchy slogans like "play fallout 1 and fallout 2 with your friends - download coop mod". Of course new lands, storyline, quests are much more better because of variety and new experience but if fallout 1 and 2 exist on fonline engine I will play again, not matter that played 20th times alone :)
Also license... Please. More advanced games are recreated on other engine and nobody bother. If it it free 'mod' then it is fine. Bethesda wont hurt their PR and bother game for 300 people.

There are some differences between "free mod" and "stand-alone game" where you have story line which isn't your own and isn't free to use. It should works like Restoration Project, MegaMod or other mods where Sfall is applied.
For more law issues ask:
- Bethesda,
- Gabe (distributor).

If they will have officially agree for free to use this both games (F/F2) then you can do what you want.

These recreated games are free to play at the moment. You can recreate for ex. GTA, GTA 2 which are officially shared for free download by Rockstar. Fallout also was free to download from gog.com few years ago, but from while when Bethesda took Interplay's rights to this title you must pay for it.
BTW all these downloaded copies are fully legal.

Other example of receation is Black Mesa Source game. To run you have to buy atleast Half-Life 2 game where you have first part of this game included and you have bought both - the Source engine and Half-Life story line. After that you can technically install this refreshed and improved remake of Half Life game.

Isnt fonline working similar? To play you need to have fallout 2 files in client, as I remember critter.dat or master.dat isnt it? It is not my business if someone download illegal copy or use fallout.dat without having orginal game. So I see nothing wrong in recreation orginals fallouts on fonline engine.

You can use graphics and sounds content from Fallout and Fallout 2 (OST excluded) games. You can use original versions of Fallout game engine in your non-profit projects. You can't use Fallout's storyline in FOnline and Fallout title.

Most from these graphics and sounds are included in demo versions of original Fallout games and they are fully legal, free to download.

OK so i noticed a few things;

The skill name changes are pretty funny in some cases (like Hope and Sports), and a lot of things don't provide much info over what exactly they do (some skills, traits etc), some we can assume function as normal but others are a big question mark.

The creation screen allows for 4 skills to be selected but the fourth skill chosen doesn't get tagged when you start the game.

Upon creating a second account with the same password but different name, I was given access to my first characters base when I spawned, but when I leave the area, the farm disappears for that new character.

The locations discovered, including the farm you start at, don't come up as locations in the side bar on the WM screen.

I walked for ages with scouting tagged, and barely managed to find any locations at all, the barren waste is great but it would be great to at least start with or be able to inquire about a close by town of some sort, I currently have no idea if there are mines or "safe towns" or anything, but I'll keep searching ;)

The WM time rate is very slow, in that it takes a minute or two of game time to cross a grid while walking, which isn't really a problem at all, and may be intentional, but it just makes it seem like I'm crossing great distances very quickly.

And any combat skill bar martial arts is very hard to start with given most of the above points, but again, may be intentional and probably won't be an issues once one figures out certain locations.

All of this is said in love, just giving feedback :)

Hope everybody enjoyed Fonline Shelter! It wasn't meant to be anything too ambitious, it was just a last minute Christmas gift I decided to code just for fun. Only took me a few days to create. Imagine what YOU could do if you put the time into it!

The whole point of this was to test out the
Player farm pubically :p so I made a little single player game to get it out there! If you guys have any suggestions about it let me know ASAP! The player farm is going to be included in the new season of reloaded!!!

So yes, fonline shelter is just the player farm all hyped up to look like a single player adventure game, pretty snazzy, eh?

What did I like - those quests connected with Farm (at least those which worked wich Chinook location npcs), NPC traders inside locations already selling basic stuff and having caps, the farm thing, -ap for actions in TB, either I didn't found the "campaign" or this was just to troll us, but the boy stuff was good. Keep up the good work, I won't do same as you because I'm impatient and I can't code at all.

I figured it was something like this, and I did want to try some of the farm stuff, but the material requirements plus the lack of places to get mats, made it hard to do any upgrading at all.

BTW what's with the Mr. Nixon doll lol! That weirded me out, like the Nixon on the forum, or the real guy? hehe

Workbenches are hidden around the world. An advanced workbench be found on the final level of Mira's Curse, and Hangdog's Junkyard. If you want a regular workbench then build a tent.

The game takes place about 100 years before Fallout 1, so the towns have not been created yet. All you get are the beginnings of civilization. That's why the mines are there, I'm showing that the mines (resource holes) were discovered first, overtime the wasteland started building prosperous towns once the world started cleaning itself up.

None of the vaults have really opened (except for a couple) so the wasteland hasn't been affected by any "heroes" yet, that's why the theme of isolation and loneliness was meant to be present; the world was a strange, lonely, violent place before the vaults opened.

OK so i noticed a few things;

The skill name changes are pretty funny in some cases (like Hope and Sports), and a lot of things don't provide much info over what exactly they do (some skills, traits etc), some we can assume function as normal but others are a big question mark.

They're simple name changes :P for novelty's sake. Hope is the unused skill and does nothing lol.

The creation screen allows for 4 skills to be selected but the fourth skill chosen doesn't get tagged when you start the game.

They should show up in game, on my PC it clearly shows 4 tagged skills, maybe you forgot to tag a 4th skill? It happened to a few players.

Upon creating a second account with the same password but different name, I was given access to my first characters base when I spawned, but when I leave the area, the farm disappears for that new character.

Known bug I decided not to fix, helps create the illusion of "insanity" and allows newly made characters to grab your first characters items easier. Without this bugged shared location it would be a lot more complicated trading items between your chars. As a single player game it's okay, but as an MMORPG it's a horrible idea lol.

The locations discovered, including the farm you start at, don't come up as locations in the side bar on the WM screen.

I didn't want them showing up. Only the glow shows up as a marker for the center map. I threw it in as a reference. Helps create the illusion of "insanity" and "forgetfulness". Also helps you get your barrings, and it's supposed to show where the big nuke landed and destroyed California. Hence why the center of the map is completely dead -> it's where the nuke hit, and killed everything around. Won't be any life going for at least another 30 years.

I walked for ages with scouting tagged, and barely managed to find any locations at all, the barren waste is great but it would be great to at least start with or be able to inquire about a close by town of some sort, I currently have no idea if there are mines or "safe towns" or anything, but I'll keep searching ;)

I'll make a worldmap shoon. I spread everything out and made sure nothing was close. The PipBoy messages give hints at where the locations are though :p. The game itself is extremely short, yet you can spend hours trying to find a location on the map, was purely for atmosphere. Worked out well IMO, until you actually know where all the locations are lol. Enjoy that feeling of awe while it lasts.

The WM time rate is very slow, in that it takes a minute or two of game time to cross a grid while walking, which isn't really a problem at all, and may be intentional, but it just makes it seem like I'm crossing great distances very quickly.

Might have to lower travel speed, but this helps prevent the boring feeling of wandering around an empty world. Unfortunately there just isn't enough content in game to really make it worth exploring every square. Game wasn't meant to be as ambitious as Reloaded season 3

And any combat skill bar martial arts is very hard to start with given most of the above points, but again, may be intentional and probably won't be an issues once one figures out certain locations.

All of this is said in love, just giving feedback :)

So my fellow Khans and I have found a bug in the Shelter. If you do the quest "Cold in the Night" which leads into the quest "Reclaiming your Throne" and you tell your apprentice that you are not ready you can no longer continue with the quest. How do we fix this issue?

Haven't had a chance to look at the code today, but uh... guess you have to restart. Sorry. Will patch soon.

Yeah, attacking Death is bad... known bug... sorry...


EDIT:

Theoretically, if you attack Death and die. You turn on HARDCORE mode, which equals no campaign, and no starting base.  8) Deal with it.

There are no stills. Buy beer, rotgut, or flamer fuel from towns.

If you really want to add a still, then open up mapper -> write ~q_seven -> place still object -> write ^q_seven

log in as admin pass admin

type ~getaccess admin admin

go to farm, grab all objects and move vehicles

then type ~regenmap

Your mods are now in game.

Save, and log out. You can't do TB combat in admin mode.

I have a bug with the quest where chinooks asks us to go and tell "the water man" he is not welcomed anymore. I dont have the dialog to tell him... and now he wants me to buy him cigs at the rawhide lol (Buster much?).

Also 4th skill isnt tagged ingame (I did tag it before creating).

Is there a still somewhere? I found the worbenches but no still.

The still you have to place as an admin I can send you the information via PM and the 4th skill doesn't show it as tagged in game. And there is a patch made by Corrosive to fix that.

And Gargantua you love the fact that we are playing it you are just scared to join us lol love you

Well, thanks everyone for checking out FOnline: Shelter. As you all know (or don't) it was a tech demo to show off one of the new player bases that will be available in the upcoming season of Reloaded. What I am curious about now is, how many of you actually used the Farm? Did you enjoy it? Was it fun? Unique enough?

It was indeed fun! I upgraded it to the max, but then found myself without real stuff to do ingame (I know its just a demo, so it's fine).

The farm was a good idea, it brings more roleplaying to the game.
It's unique in the fonline universe and the rewards are high enough for it to be used (I think).

The only thing I think is a bit annoying were the water bag, the rest is easy to gather in big bulk with a cow. Those water bags tho... having to go around the map to find brahmin and stuff is annoying af (I know the water pump fixes that for a little while).

As for the rewards, I think XP and money were enough. Let's be real if you plant like 500X crops you get 50 000 caps every day, thats plenty of XP and money u can gather for your char. Thats still huge.

I would maybe add something like : you need to have slaves to work in the field when you have more than 10 crops, otherwise it can virtually be abused if someone just plants thousands of crops.

why would you ruin your experience by cheating :(
but ye, just type :
~getaccess admin admin
then
`param 0 0 10        = 10 ST
`param 0 1 10        = 10 PE
etc..
you can find numbers of params (second number) in server/data/paramnames.lst

See this is where you could add some interesting RP aspects, as would it be moral to work slaves in the first place, would others think less of you or would you be subject to some kind of attack from wasteland police types.

This +1

This would allow NPC good and bad factions that players could join, for the opportunity to raid an enemy farm!  Kind of like a caravan, that has a chance to encounter an enemy base.

Over in the Coolant Plant location or w.e is the water merchants npc. Where the Water Man is you can interact with your farm's water supply. Sell/buy crates, etc.

There are advanced workbenches already in game. Check out the Junkyard and Toxic Caves.

Can't build own workbenches, but there should be a few inside of towns.

You could also place a tent, but you won't get access to a normal workbench, even with high skill. One must stay in towns.

I just got all of the parts needed to make a well at my farm but i'm unable to carry all of the parts and talk to her, is there another way i can get the well?  Also, i just got the Armorer perk level 2 yet im unable to craft that tier of armors, is this a bug? Just drop all you need in 2-3 loads one hex away from the girl, then go on top of the pile and press ctrl+G (pick all). You cant move cause you are overweight, but it doesnt matter cause you can talk with her.

  Also, i just got the Armorer perk level 2 yet im unable to craft that tier of armors, is this a bug? Thanks! :D
You can't craft armors cause you need to have the Blueprints, which you can only find in lockers if you are lucky, since there is no one that sells them in F:Shelter.

Remember it's about 100 years before Reloaded. High tier gear wasn't as easy to find.

HINT: Check out Mira's Cave for some hidden loot on the last floor.

Water Man sells good gear.


If you guys can think of an idea to explore using a new standalone fonline game let me know! FOnline: Shelter started with the idea of snow, isolation, loneliness, and greed.  I'd love to work on a new project but can't think of anything too fancy right now.

IE waves of mutants start to appear in outskirt towns, and dominate WM squares.  Then they start to enter and stay in peoples tents etc, forcing everyone closer and closer to the center of the map.  until finally the whole world map is FULL of mutants and owned, and everyone on server has a massive pile of gear in hub they are using to fight off the final and inevitable wave of mutants which will kill everyone in its path.

Damnit man! It's Corosive, not corrosive! I am Corosive. I am not corrosive lol.

In 2238 we tested an idea similar (bandits raiding tents) it ended up being problematic for the majority of players -> Got caught off guard with no gear = losing your tent = having to come back all geared up = waste time = rage quit. I'd love to bring the idea back but meh, tents should be safe.

Wipe is coming when it's ready. Our previous release date was a bit too premature and the amount of new content added in its place equals some amazing stuff!

Shouldn't be too long now a lot of the major stuff was finished recently.

Nope, it's 100 years or so before Reloaded. Energy Weapon crafting was too fancy. Fonline Shelter was meant to appear much more primitive and "old".

You can find some energy weapons on vendors and in dungeons. You should be able to easily get some decent gear by exploring Mira's Curse (Toxic Caves) and getting to the last level.

South side of the world has the better vendors. I think the Junkyard has the equivalent of the gunrunners, or maybe it's Jericho. You'll have to drive around in your old school mobster car and find out for yourself :P
