Title: Special encounters
Post by: DemonHunterV2 on September 19, 2013, 03:52:18 am
do you have the option to ignore or do you have to enter a fight and find it....?

Differ between random and special encounters. Random ones you can skip with high Outdoor, and you are forced into special ones, which are harmless.

Initially harmless.
The Nukacola truck encounter presents you an opportunity to die if you approach the centaur and not kill him.

Yeah this is something I do not understand...in the encounter that has the least benefit(12 nukas or 24 with high lockpick), why is there a 203 hp centaur guarding it?!
All the others simply have places to search...the clinic, which just has some medical stuff and needler pistols, requires high lockpick. Vertibird and bunker don't require anything, correct me if I am mistaken about that?

Because its special encounter.

Well, in Fallout 1 and 2, special encounters also had a chance of the player dying in them. I don't know why should FOR be an exception.

The Nuka truck and clinic are retarded encounters left over from 2238.

Oh gosh srsly, you guys cry because there is some critter on special encounter? You kidding right?

Just because you have one character with all combat maxed out due to nolife farming doesn't mean all of us do, it's a pain to find a special encounter and have to run from critters or abandon locked containers

I think they don't realize that this centaur can be killed easily. Even at level what... 1? All you need is turnbased and agility 10.
Just throw 1 punch and walk away 7 hexes, it won't have enough AP left to attack you.

Just because you have shitty char you don't need to whine about special encounter. You can always just try to kill it (what is basically absurdal ease to kill one single critter) or lure away and try to ninja loot but yeah better to whine.

Don't make fun of punch!

Don't make fun of punch!
sudo make math
Centaurs have 200-300 hp
Punch (melee attack for low-strength chars) deals 3-5 dmg.
It will take you some 40-100 turns to kill him in worst case scenario but you'll be getting 12 nukas.

12 nukas... just 12?
Damn really what a waste of time.

make it 24-28 if you have good lockpicking skill

@below
Sorry, my bad. Corrected.

make it 36 if you have good lockpicking skill
As I said twice now, the other locker has 12-16 nukas
24-28 altogether
And for Perteks, just gtfo. You sure do bitch like a kid a lot for someone with a pony for their profile picture

Don't put words into my mouth; I said nothing about the centaur. The Nuka and Clinic encounters are retarded because they serve no purpose. They're not special, and everything in them can be obtained easily from other places.

I do believe special items are the reason special encounters were invented?
Let's see....crashed spaceship, no enemies, alien baster...guardian of forever, no enemies, solar scorcher....café of broken dreams, no enemies, dogmeat....bridge, no enemies unless attacked, free robe and possible xp. So why do you say that for someone to benefit from special encounters, one must have the right build and right equipment when they find it? I'm not saying that's bad, but if you can't return to the encounter, then no, it is not fair.

Wow srsly? And i though it was reference/easter eggs. Dayum how wrong i was, it was obvious that special encs are for free loot damn
Crashed spaceship- star trek
Guardian of forever- star trek again
Bridge keeper - Monty Python (+few other special encs with same plot)
cafe of broken dreams - Mad Max
Crashed ufo - there was even description property of arena 51 if i remember correctly.

BTW 3/4 of original special encs didn't have anything special it was funny references.

BTW 3/4 of original special encs didn't have anything special it was funny references.
Crashed Shuttle - star trek reference and unique loot
café of broken dreams - unique follower
a guardian portal - star trek reference and unique loot
A giant stone head - unique loot
Herd of Brahmin - just a joke
King Arthur's knights - reference to monty python
King Arthur's knights fighting a vorpal rat - unique loot, reference to monty python
A lone surviving dog - unique companion(even if not beneficial)
A man guarding a bridge - monty python reference, unique loot
Remains of a whale - reference to a hitchhiker's guide to the galaxy, unique but pointless loot
Tin woodsman - reference to wizard of oz, unique loot that can be used for xp
Toxic waste dump - just xp
Unwashed villagers - reference to forums, nothing valuable
Alien ship - unique loot and reference to elvis rumors
Bob's pre owned car mart - unique loot
Brahmin herd - just a joke
Unusual callbox - doctor who reference
Giant foorprint - just a joke, possible reference to something
Nuka cola truck - just cash
So stop bitching and going wastes are harsh on special encounters, theres a reason theyre special. 11/19 have special loot, 4/19 "didn't have anything special it was funny references"
This is all from the fallout wiki, get your shit straight before you start talking shit on forums like an angered child
Edit: Only 2 of 19 actually have hostiles spawn upon entering, 10 can kill you if you act like a dick, what was that you were saying about free stuff?

This is a different game, not remake of Fallout 1/2, you do realize that?
There is nowhere a written rule that a special encounter should be only about jokes or unique loot.

You are bigger moron than i though sorry then. You miss obvious means of special encs but ok

P.S.
Alien pistol were possible to obtain in other ways too, not unique.
You could have another dog with nearly same stats that had dogmeat sooo unique...
There was way that few merchants could have Hypo in their store.

Giant footprint was reference to godzilla

Cry harder kid
Alien pistol were possible to obtain in other ways too, not unique.
Only one way to obtain in both games, in f2 you could gt multiple
You could have another dog with nearly same stats that had dogmeat sooo unique...
Major logic fail as to what unique is
There was way that few merchants could have Hypo in their store.
Even if thats true, phazer is still unique
Giant footprint was reference to godzilla
I thought it was somewhere along those lines, thnx for clearing it up

Just stop it you two.
Special encounters shouldn't necessary give some loot, you should be happy to even get one - it might have just saved your life! (And you can make a screenshot there, showing off how hipster you are)
Nor they shouldn't have any enemies, you should be always armed.

I know, but there are instances where this is a gamebreaker. Example: you were off having fun in reno and suddenly some meanie shot you in the head. Off we go to the spawn! On your way back for your gear, you encounter this special little place with hpa and vertibird and shits. Yay! Oh, but there are super mutants and enclave...sorry, no verti or gauss for you
Just stop it you two.
