Title: Testing new client
Post by: Kilgore on October 11, 2014, 08:01:16 pm
First thing: this is not an open beta test yet!

This small test is ONLY to check if there are problems with running newer version of client (FPS drops, game crashes and other weird behaviour). That's why we ask you to launch it and play a bit. You will be able to see few or more new features but it's only a small part of what will be brought by new session. Almost everything is WIP but it's not important at this moment - more important is checking stability and compatibility.

Instructions:
- Download the new client from here: (test closed)
- Unzip it to a NEW directory on your HDD,
- Throw "fallout.dat" or "master.dat AND critter.dat" from your Reloaded client into /data/packs directory,
- Run FOnline.exe. Don't run Updater.exe.
- Register a new character and play a bit.

After you think it's enough, you should post following info for us:
+ version of your Operating System, and whether it is 32-bit or 64-bit,
+ your hardware: CPU (at least model), amount of RAM, Video card (at least model),
+ info about encountered problems - if there weren't any, write it!
+ additional things if you think they are important or worth of mentioning,

Note:
- make sure that you're using the newest drivers for your video card,
- you can type /chat command to use global chat. For other commands, press F1 button,
- Altruists have been placed in Hub; one gives free experience, the other one provides some gear,
- 800x600 resolution is no longer considered as supported, use higher,
- Mapper is now integrated in client,
- Client and mapper are updated automatically when launched.

Known/temporary issues:
- Many objects have ugly blue background colour,
- Hex shooting/throwing, displaying TC zones etc. doesn't work if you visit worldmap (or login on worldmap),
- Using Automap in Pipboy gives strange results,
- Some messages in Fixboy are wrong,
- Bug in scrolling the worldmap while using fullscreen mode - use window mode when scrolling worldmap,
- Poor performance on some video cards, but we ask you to post a report on it,
- Changing resolution causes interface to be displayed in wrong area - restart client.

New client requires update, when I'm trying to update it does get stuck on "faction.zip" download. I know it's huge file, but it shouldn't take even this long on fast internet.

Why didn't you just include files that are needed to new client, so we could just paste them to our original "FOnline Reloaded" folder?

Edit:

Was able to update new client, now client does show error:

"Data file 'Datafiles2238.cfg' not found. Run Updater.exe."

I've tried to update, but there isn't Datafiles2238.cfg
Title: Re: Testing new client
Post by: Kilgore on October 11, 2014, 08:33:04 pm
If you use updater.exe, then don't, everything except fallout.dat/master.dat/critter.dat is included.

There is no Datafiles2238.cfg in the new client. Unzip it again, copy .dat and run FONLINE.EXE.

I thought it's really obvious but you should unzip new client to A NEW LOCATION on your HDD. Instructions updated.

FPS 60(Vsync)
Vsync doesn't seem work even enabled on new client, I've had same problem on AoP server.

Edit: Can't connect to server, just added fallout.dat to right place and my network is just fine. What is wrong?

Edit: When trying to create character -> "Incorrent SPECIAL data" error appears, I've tried many kind builds.

Maybe you should read. I had same problem on AoP server, and now I'm not able to use new client.

And I can easily say when Vsync is off, even on character creation menu :D

Skilldex and help (called by F1 key) can be closed only by escape key.
Some pictures of items (propably only these from 2238) havn't transparental background.

Computer specs

Windows 7, 64bit
i7-4700MQ, 2,40 GHz up to 3,40 GHz
8 GB RAM
GeForce GT 745M

Problem

Vsync problems (basically, client is too fast):

FPS (500-600)
Fan is getting loud and my computer feels hot.
Mouse is moving too fast during game.

Vsync = True or False, on fonline.cfg have same effect.

This is main problem for most computers (weak ones, laptops..)

Solved with FixedFPS setting!

In 2nd register we can choose 6 main skills but only three the most recent will be stored.
(http://www.image-share.com/upload/2722/160.png) (http://www.image-share.com/ipng-2722-160.html)

Correction:
These skills "old" are only marked on grey as selected.

Edit: Same in trait selection.

Edit 2:
- Light a cigarret - sound is very wierd.
- When we using chat and if we type letters "q" or "w" then we will switch shoot and look borders.
- Scenery without transparental background? (see screens)

Known/temporary issues:
- Many objects have ugly blue background colour,

and then

-non transparent background in many graphics

Some pictures of items (propably only these from 2238) havn't transparental background.

(and a wall of screenshots)

Wtf guys? I'm aware of it, just didn't have the time to convert images correctly :P Yet!

When you post that you have i7, specify exact model so I can know which GPU is integrated there.

Check if setting FixedFPS inside FOnline.cfg to some value gives any result.
For me, VSYNC always worked (tested on Radeon R9 280X, Geforce GT 550M, Intel HD 3000).

Btw many thanks for the reports, I hope more people will post.

What is your framerate? We tested new client on Intel HD 3000 and experienced very low framerate.
Try to update drivers from: https://downloadcenter.intel.com/Detail_Desc.aspx?DwnldID=23764&lang=eng&ProdId=3319
and see if it helps.

Bugs found:
Cant scroll my screen while one world map or in hub/ new reno etc...
                   Cant go fullscreen in 1280/720
Try window mode, there is a bug with scrolling worldmap in fullscreen mode.

About global chat.
That great additional thing needs some switch in options to turn on or off because when it is displayed in battle then it covers targets, way to run, etc.
For example: Try to fight with it in New Reno on Commercial Row, below New Reno Arms.

Win7 x64
Intel Core 2 Quad 2,4 GHz
4 GB RAM
ATI Radeon HD 5870 1GB DDR5

- 800x600 resolution is no longer considered as supported, use higher,
For me, changing resolution to ANY other won't work. Same with full screen mode. It always displays in 1024x768 window.

Changing FPS rate to any other won't work. Regardless if VSYNC tagged or not - it always displays ~60 fps (VSYNC) (on Reloaded client I use 150 fps no VSYNC with no problems).
Title: Re: Testing new client
Post by: Kilgore on October 12, 2014, 12:13:56 pm
If you edit FOnline.cfg then do it with the file existing in /data/cache, not main directory. If there is no such file there, copy-paste it from the main dir.
Title: Re: Testing new client
Post by: BB. on October 12, 2014, 12:43:56 pm
I tried by FOConfig, it saves changes, but it doesn't work anyway.

I did like you said. Changing resolution manualy to 1680x1050 or 1916x1010 (in order to fit window to my 1920x1080 resolution) makes Fonline crash when logging with a character (welcome screen works well though). Setting resolution to 1920x1080 makes my cursor dissapear and some other inconveniences.

Title: Re: Testing new client

Most important bugs so far..

Incorrent SPECIAL data error on character creation

Small Frame, Bruiser and Bonehead traits are causing this problem (+SPECIAL or -SPECIAL traits)

You fail to pick the lock

You can pick the lock of already lockpicked car, after that text "You fail to pick the lock" appears but no cooldown. Vehicle trunks are working fine and "That does nothing." appears, when trying to lockpick already lockpicked trunk as it should be.

During character creation, select two traits and 3 tagged skills. Then close character creation and restart, now you can choose more traits and skills.

Fix for this: Everytime player close character creation and start, it should show default screen. And not save status from earlier creation.

You cannot close F1 screen anymore with F1 button, you have to press ESC

Not really big problem, just annoing.

Your character with IP is connected to the server already...

I deleted old character, and restarted modem and computer. Yet it thinks I do have character on this IP connected.

Audio problems with some actions (buggy audio engine with new client)

Already reported, just like smoking. My ears are hurt :D
Title: Re: Testing new client
Post by: BB. on October 12, 2014, 01:34:00 pm
I believe I have best possible drivers for my configuration.

- Throw "fallout.dat" or "master.dat AND critter.dat" from your Reloaded client into /data/packs directory,
Yep, yep. That was a problem. I messed up the files and when reuploaded the whole folder forgot to add fallout.dat in a proper place. My bad, sorry. I've tested it and it works under random resolutions now. Seems like problem is solved.

However it works only via manual changes in FOnline.cfg (resolution, VSYNC on/off and others), FOConfig is not working at all.

I've also noticed that my ping in the client is not stable. It goes up and down randomly all the time (it's between 40 and 110). I've checked - it's the server/client not my internet.
Title: Re: Testing new client
Post by: Kilgore on October 12, 2014, 02:08:04 pm
You can ignore "unstable ping" as it's caused by the setting on the test server, made to decrease cpu load on the server machine.

When we cross the cursor over vein or tree then we haven't description about extracting ores, chopping wood.

Quarries:
I thing it's too small count of active vein at the same time.
Instead of vein graphics (minerals, iron, alse these hq, uranium) we have red rectangle with question mark.

Description about condition in activeslot shows percent of damage, not a condition.

Window mode:
Client doesn't take position of the mouse cursor when cursor is outside the client window.

Sounds are little bit scratchy - music and the game sounds, acm and ogg. Propably there is higher sample rate on sound output than playing file have (engine problem).

About smoking.ogg (playing when we lights a cigarret)
That sound file as the one from all is saved with 48kHz sample rate. I reduced it to 44,1kHz and saved in data\sound\sfx\ folder and now it sounds much better.

I don't know why, but capping FPS doesn't seem to work for me. It heats my card unnecessarily :p
And I can see some screen tearing while moving screen (even with Vsync on)

BTW Reloaded uses graphic card even if it's minimized.

Junktown - South Gate, day time (10:22am):

When we type /factioninfo command, beside our faction name some members of these factions will see nothing else and some members will see friendly faction AND INVITATION from friendly faction. Some members of these factions see bases of friendly faction and some not.

TC with friendly faction (2:1):
Few times I started the timer, but it worked for half minute.

TC action:
When players, which take town logout in the last 30 seconds of the timer they will disappear immediately from map and the town will be taken by them.

TC timer bug:
Some players can see fake TC timer, when:
Step 1) they logout, when TC timer is running,
Step 2) faction which are taking the town loose the timer,
Step 3) players login again (even as other character) in the time that should be left to take control.

Members of friendly faction does not count for timer.
You sure none of actual members had "The town considers you weak, and don't want your protection." message in log when starting timer.
Or one of these "You're too weak to help your factions cause.", "You're outside of the combat zone, return there immediately or your faction may lose control." before timer stopped?

TC action:

Player disappear right after logging off only now (due to settings in sever config).
It's normal that leaving control zone in last 30 seconds will still grant you control over time. It has always been like that, nothing changed here. Area check is made every 10 seconds, after third failed check you lose timer, so if countdown ends before third check is made you capture town.

Nothing, like that. Faction which try to take town started the timer and after 30 sec timer has stopped and members of this faction get message:
"Your faction has lost control of the town due to leaving the combat zone." Member of friendly faction didn't receive any message.

Other technical problems:

There is always small delay (ping outburst!), when going encounters or towns. Depends how high ping is going, longer you have to wait until your character respond to your actions.

Solution
-Exit client completely, delete (or rename) the cache folder, and re-launch. Problem fixed.

Issues
-I have Ranger perk but did not get a Safe House when i built a tent.
-Tent was from Level 2 tent quest so maybe it is always a tent even with Ranger. If so, disregard item 1 on this list.

Henry, just place master.dat and critter.dat into /data/packs directory. You don't have to use config to point place for those files:

Quote
- Throw "fallout.dat" or "master.dat AND critter.dat" from your Reloaded client into /data/packs directory,

Also, don't change "host" settings for test client. I did changed them and it didn't connect at all to test server.

Possible fix for crash (Wipe told in some topic, that crashes are very common with Windows XP):

Right click on test client, select "Run as administrator"

Spoiler: Way to play on test server • show

1. Download test client again.
2. Place fallout.dat or master.dat&critter.dat into "/data/packs" directory.
3. Start game with FOnline.exe (don't change settings yet, possible to fail connection to server)
4. AND REMEMBER #3

Well, not exactly, but it doesn't matter anymore - it was about old client and too many has been changed over last year to keep saying that.

I agree with it.

When we take multiple count of items form containers, trunks, etc and we want to apply that count by Enter key button then we must press it two times.

Also sometimes we must press two times enter key button on login screen or when we use SAY option in dialog.

Categories on barter doesn't work now, but I think in first days of test it worked fine.

When we read blueprints they don't want to load immediately but after few seconds (max 15 seconds for me).

You have to ignore delay/lags with test server, and wait for more stable release!

You can ignore "unstable ping" as it's caused by the setting on the test server, made to decrease cpu load on the server machine.

I know the difference between unstable ping and these delays. From where the devteam can know about bugs without reports? They aren't a Kashpirovsky.

IMO more stable version of FOnline:Reloaded as the all game, not only engine, was relased about year ago. I think that new engine it's dead end (for now). Old one still works much better. Autoupdate and integration with FOConfig are the only ones of the advantages. Everything else it's only delays, delays, errors, delays and nowhere defined for the game without delays ultra-high requirements (OMG, minimum OpenGL2.0 for graphics from 2nd half of the '90s). If you want to see more stable release of new FOnline engine then you must wait a year, or two, or more - PC machines will be faster and new FOnline engine will have only these bugs which no one will care.

No, they are not. You still look at FOnline as a player, even if you started tinkering with SDK.

If you want to see more stable release of new FOnline engine then you must wait a year, or two, or more
FOnline2 devs are waiting too - for client which will run on low-end machines (surprisingly, i don't see their reports in the thread). Ashes of Phoenix devs does the same, plus they'll have extra work with GUI modifications they've added, so it would take even longer.
I have no idea what's going on with russian side of FOnline, but i don't think it's much different there; last time i asked around, they've been using exactly same revision as servers mentioned (or even older) which is dated on january.

That's already almost a year of waiting.

I think that new engine it's dead end (for now).

Actually, I feel quite opposite - it would be a dead end if we just stayed at the old version. Current (old) Reloaded version also has it's bugs - famous bug with hidden mode trade, fullscreen + alt-tab bug, various crashes and problems - just see "Bugs" section. If we didn't update it, we would have just to deal with it.

However, certain new features on Reloaded REQUIRED an update - so yeah, we had a good reason to do it.

Kompre, try my solution from page 3. I have an XP system too:

Initial Problem
-Client will not load - crashes immediately when i try (details pasted below)

Spoiler: FOnline Log • show

Starting FOnline (version 462)...
Engine initialization...
Sprite manager initialization...

Solution
-Exit client completely, delete (or rename) the cache folder, and re-launch. Problem fixed.

Client doesn't start, just black window, then grey for a second, then black again.
Win 7, i7 2600k, Gigabyte R9 270X

Can you upload FOnline.log to pastebin and paste here? Also try updating video card drivers.

Video card drivers are up to date.

Strange, i have tested it on R9 280x and worked.

Are You sure that you have all files?
Do I need anything more besides critter and master.dat in the "pack" folder?

It's "packs", and there need to be "reloaded.zip" as well [it should be automagically downloaded by client].

I know some of these are already reported, just added pictures with them.

Automaps

Holder for maps should be transparent, not white. Maps are too big for holder and player can move maps.

"Your character with your IP is connected to the server already. Dropping the connection, try to login again now."

Not really sure about this, seems like bug as it does appear always (IP changed, cache reloaded, creating new character..)
