I played quite a bit of 2238, so I am somewhat familiar with how this is supposed to work.
I unzipped the full client, but when I open the foline.exe or folinegl.exe I just get a grey screen for less than a second. It fails to start.
If anyone has had this same problem, or if a dev can help out I would be super grateful. I can't figure what to do next.

Did you set your CRITTER and MASTER data paths?
-
At fist I did out of habit, and it did not work. Although I guess I should point out that the grey screen hung for a while the first time I tried. It is only every time after that I have gotten the result described in my original post.
My buddy says his client is running like a top, and all he did was open the foline.exe after unzipping. It is my understanding that those files, or the equivalent, are provided in the full client download.
But I tried again anyway, same result.
Thanks for the quick response anyway stalker. Good to see the same folks are still around.

Can you take a look at Fonline.log for error details?

Tell us first what OS your computer use? :D

"Can you take a look at Fonline.log for error details?"
I am not much of a technophile, but surprisingly I thought of that. Unfotunatly was unable to locate it. Tips here are appreciated.
"Tell us first what OS your computer use?"
In retrospect, clearly I should have just posted this from the beginning. I use Windows 7 (ultimate).

The same folder as fonline.exe

Which client are you trying to run? DirectX (FOnline.exe) or OpenGL (FOnlineGL.exe)?
-
Had a similar problem at the beggining. In my case I found that I need a directx 3D dll to make fonline work ( d3dx9_42.dll ) and put in the game folder.

^ Or actually install an up-to-date redistributable package of DirectX.
