Title: New Player who needs help

I'm sorry to clog up the forums with posts like this, but I'm stuck and I'm not sure what to do.

I'm just starting out and I'm trying to gather wood, but I can't seem to interact with anything but stumps with my primitive tool, and every stump I find doesn't have any wood. I have found a hatchet, yet that produces even fewer results as I can't even interact with the stumps while using the hatchet.

Did I miss something or is this a bug?

Thanks for the response!

I do see that whenever I mouse over a stump my cursor changes to the hatchet/primi tool, but I can't seem to find any trees in the starting area (the Vault camp) that will give me any wood.
