Some are. I remember I learned mining by going to one of the mines (Junktown iirc) and asked some random guy, "Whachu doin'?" and he told me.
Some of us (THIS GIRL!) get off on helping nooks get their start. I even fought ants once just to get a noon some wood. I think he quit after that, though.

in the last few days, while footlocker hunting, folks that "almost" took out my 145hp foot locker hunter started shooting first.
a few of those folks survived the first burst, but the second or a single from my lsw douched them.
so don't shoot at me first.

Because tons of powerfull pvp character shoot at sight, it s normal in wasteland sure,
but for my little 114 hp crafter/hunting locker/potential slaver it s too much sometime... =p

I think it's a lot more of a challenge to be a good guy in this game, it's very easy to PK, steal, troll etc but it takes a real man/woman to be kind to others and be a positive member of the community.

I know this isn't really the place for it but my little faction 'The Brahmin Eaters' are a hero of the waste style faction with the purpose of helping new players get started in the world 1) because helping people makes me feel good, 2) to encourage new players to stay and increase the community size.

So if that's the kinda thing your into, drop me a line ^_^
