Title: Server machine upgrade
Post by: Kilgore on September 02, 2013, 10:11:46 pm
Hey, I have just got an email that a new dedicated server is configured.

I am planning to move FOnline: Reloaded there in max. 2 days.
New machine is powerful, so hopefully potential problems with high ping should disappear.

I will inform you about the exact time in this thread. Stay tuned!

Where is that server located?

Current server is located in Poland, the new one in France.

I'm about to start moving server data, so it will be shut down soon and back on-line as soon as possible. Probably 1-3 hours.
There will be no rollback.

Finished.
Now waiting for DNS refresh.
Server is online, if you have issues with connecting to it, use FOConfig.exe -> Net -> Host and type 188.165.225.167 there.

What kind of a question is that about ping? It always depends on the location of the server AND client.
Current server status is online, I wrote it in previous post.

Yep, the thing at the bottom shows that the server is offline. Probably the old one.

Btw for those that are curious what was the server change.

Old machine:
- Home server, just a typical budget PC
- Intel Celeron G530 @ 2.4 Ghz (2 Cores, 2 Threads)
- 4GB of memory
- 320GB SATA HDD
Networking:
- 8 Mbit Upload
- Cisco EPC3008 cable modem + Linksys Router WRT160Nv2

New machine:
- A dedicated server in data center
- Intel i7-930 @ 2.8 Ghz (4 Cores, 8 Threads)
- 24GB of memory
- 2 TB SATA HDD
Networking:
- 100 Mbit

Should explain why there were problems in the beginning when like 300 people started downloading cache ;)
Personally I was very surprised that the game was even playable with more than 400 on board.
Also old setup had 100% CPU load frequenty. If someone had problems with lags, they should be gone now.
