Mentats and Party Points

If I temporarily increase my party points using mentats in order to gain an extra follower, what happens when the mentats wear off? Do you keep the follower anyway? Has anyone tested this?

Yes you will keep that maggot. The same with beer, armor with cha bonus and mirrored shades/HPA helmet
