Title: Map creator
Post by: juniorkm7 on November 26, 2013, 07:35:26 am
I would like to do something for the community and create some dungeons. Is there any map creator with simple interface to simply build a map like in the starcraft?

Please share links and tutorials. I couldn't find anything on fodev.net...

My projects will be:
Zombie attack bunker - you will die for sure, but you can get a lot of exp there
Forgotten USArmy base - the army is there from almost 200 years shooting everything :)
Vault 0 - very big complex with a lot of robots defending it, many lockers similar to those from mariposa, a great prize for the best players who survive and get to the heart of bunker - Power Armor (it will not be easy to obtain and it is not obviuos that you will leave the base with it :D)
Tenpenny Tower - skyscraper for the richest players. You will be able to buy a permanent apartment in auction
Prison - located on one of the islands prison where people will kill you if enter there
Maybe some new faction bases projects
New better hideout than tent and safehouse - no need to create faction to get it.

Any opinions? If someone would like to join and create any of those projects with me - please PM
Please don't forget to give a link to map creator :)

The tutorials:

Duke explained step by step what he did in this thread.
Also, FOnline2 tutorial.

There is no simple mapper like Starcraft. Master the FOnline mapper to achieve your noble goals.

Pfft...
juniorkm7, your intention to contribution is noble.

But the fact that you asked for a simple map editor, shows that you have't even touched the matter, yet announced with great ambition to the public your plans to introduce a lot of maps, while you haven't made a single one or even attempted to do it.

This is neither serious nor mature. And now, please don't tell me that you saw all these tutorials and thought "uhh, this is not like Starcraft map editor at all... Too complicated, i better lay down and won't reply to my topic at all."

Come on me, bro. Give it a try and deliver at least a patch of sand in a mapper or even top this!
I dare you and everyone else!

Excuse my doublepost but the matter just needed to be bumped.

Kilgore's tutotrial (http://forum.newfmc.pl/index.php?topic=47.0) about mapper - the best one which I read when I was creating maps, its' polish but you can use translator of course. :) Well, and remember to use FOnline: 2238 mapper.

And the translated version (http://translate.google.com/translate?sl=pl&tl=en&u=http%3A%2F%2Fforum.newfmc.pl%2Findex.php%3Ftopic%3D47.0) of that.

Also, don't forget the Tiled Mapper (http://fodev.net/forum/index.php?topic=26058.0) by our dear Rotators. This tool make dungeons from pre-made pieces of map.
Not quite a Starcraft map editor, but definitely easier for beginners to tinker around.

Seriously, guys, post some maps.

Maps are located in the server/maps directory.
Maps relevant to Redding are:
(Entries include "open" command, just copypaste the line in command line)

~redding
~redding_lost
~redding_mine
~redding_bank_vault

And then there are maps i'm not sure if they are used in 2238 or Reloaded.
~redding_tun1
~redding_tun2
~redding_wan1
~redding_wan2

It's more likely that he is missing server files, mapper should run without Fallout dats
(although you won't see mouse cursor and tons of other graphics)... Here is full package:

Im not sure if one exists at the moment, but I think a video tutorial would be a wonderful tool to go with this. Even a basic explanation and demonstration. Just a few simple steps to begin with. I think what discourages alot of people is not knowing where to start.

Yup, someone should do either better guide or video about map editor. I think that would help many new mappers.

If nothing else works, you can try this one:

Also I expanded ReadMe.txt a little bit, although it's still only basic info.

Download 2238 server and copy maps from it.
I didn't include them to keep it small.

I don't think Reloaded maps are available. 2238 maps are here:
http://fo2238.fodev.net/source/FOnline2238.server+tools.zip
in server\maps folder.

Sorry about reviving a relatively old thread, but figured this was kind of important. I got a malware warning from chrome for this file...

I did a little map creation a long time ago, and was wanting to get back into it. I guess I'll try and stick with the older map editor until some kind of explanation comes out for the malware on the standalone editor.

Must be false report, ignore it.

Yeah, the warning probably was some kind of advertisement for Virus protection software.

There isn't any malware there unless it's in the original Mapper too and I don't know about it. But you can use 2238 Mapper instead if you don't trust it. The differences are purely cosmetic (data and configuration files are differently organized to make running the Mapper more "idiot-proof"). The Mapper features and the interface are the same.
