As Chris said, You do not. Only good thing in Bank is that no one can steal your money while baserape, and that you don't need to carry caps with you on world map in early stages, when you can be killed by nearly anything. My Advice if you are new to the game, and you play with only one character... Keep your money in bank to keep them safe. Most of experienced players have 2-5 characters so it is a pain in the A-hole to use bank for them, but it is good to keep some money that no one can steal from you.

In some seasons, the bank has paid interest. Sometimes that changes amid season. This is one of those things that varies back and forth, so while the answer might be no now, it might be yes later. Devs change stuff so always read the updates in the News forum.

As for best practices, if the bank does not pay any interest, i do not use them. Keep your primary caps stash on a dummy character who never goes anywhere except back and forth to world map. That way thieves cannot reach it if they do raid you. Park cars on map too. (You could use a car as your bank - keep rare items in the trunk, park on map and never drive it anywhere. Use some other car for driving.)

Or split your caps into different locations. Keep a healthy stash at Reno for buying cars (and empty hypos). Keep 100k at San Fran for when you get an implant. Keep some near each of your favorite barter towns, etc. But if you use a bank, it means you're going in and out of a public location with caps, sometimes a ton, and you're subject to murder and theft there regardless of whatever rules you think make you safe (and rules change anyway).
