How much % should you put into a skill?
« on: August 01, 2015, 02:37:02 pm »
I have 150% in energy weapons, 100% in science, is there any reason to keep on going with these skills? Ive heard that energy weapons is worth to get into 180% but not further?

That entirely depends on what you plan on doing with the skill.
A sniper will easily need 220-260% skill, while a burster is fine with 180-220%

You have to factor in strenght penalties, sniping or not sniping and singleshot or bursting.

You can do glow and V15 with a laser or plasma rifle if you do aimed shots without much trouble.
A character that uses a bursting weapon that can one hex will however always be better at it.

Use gatling laser if you use energy or use xl70 with ap ammo if you use small gun. Make sure you have at least lvl 24 on a good build before trying harder dungeons like warehouse.

Depends what you're doing with your build and how much strength you have. Each strength point you don't have toward the weapon's requirement is essentially -20% subtracted from your gun skill

All that these guys said is true but since none of them mentioned Bonus Rate of Fire, i will. Gun skill 180 should be typical minimum since it's what you need to get Bonus Rate of Fire (BRoF). This is probably the single most popular/important perk in the game, more than Lifegiver. Every single character i ever planned going back 4+ years has had BRoF, even my support alts like miners. Even my RP medic has BRoF. My punchers always have Close Combat 180 so they can get Bonus HtH Attacks, which is the HtH equivalent of BRoF.

So 180 minimum. I say that's your exact answer. Now factor in everything these guys said because it's all true.

First of all:

So 180 minimum. I say that's your exact answer. Now factor in everything these guys said because it's all true.

Then:
You can calculate the skill you need by using the hitchance formula:
First choose the weapon you will use mostly (sniper/XL/gatling whatever)
Calculate 4*(weapon max range+2) (or max sight if lower than range)
remove (Perception-2)*8 ; (Perception-2)*16 if your weapon has long range
add 60 if you plan on aiming eyes, 40 for head, 20 for arms/groin (need to be checked)
add 20 if weapon is "accurate"
add 20 for each missing ST point
add 10 to 30 (this one is for armor class, check what ammo you use, or shooting single shot throuw team mates, to be sure to reach 95%)

Let's try with Rocket Launcher for exemple, say you play a 10 ST / 8 P stonewall tank (on drugs)
range=4*(40+2)=168
Pe=(8-2)*16=96 (RL has long range)
no accurate, no missing st point, no aiming
add 10 for team fights
you have=168+10-96=82
Add 95 to that last value to know what your skill should be=85+95=177 skill

Other exemple with sniper rifle, 4 ST and 9 PE on drugs
range=4*(50+2)=208
Pe=(9-2)*16=112 (SR has long range)
Aiming=60 (eyes)
no accurate
ST requ=20
add 20 for team fights (2 allies)
you have=208+60+20-112=176
Add 95 to that last value to know what your skill should be=167+95=271 skill

I may have forgotten something, but this should give you a quite accurate value.
