Problem with "A Tent in the Wastland" quest

So I just got started with the game today, but I seem to have hit a wall. Doing the quest where you turn level 2 and help out the family by killing the 12 mutant rats with the bb gun, the game seems to get a bug. I can only seem to kill 11 rats and cannot find the 12th one to kill him. I've tried making a new character, coming back to it, refreshing, etc. but nothing seems to fix it. Is the game glitching or am I just being an idiot?

Last Rat is behind the curtain just next to entrance to the building. You have to get close and right click use 'hand' on it.
