not only, vendors-bartering and town control footlockers too are 2 main ways of income in this game
only faction members of faction which controls town can open them
they spawn.. modoc and klamath 4k every 30min, den and gecko 6k every 30min, redding and brokenhills 8k every 30min
in total TC lockers spawn 1,728,000 caps per day into game
best way to make caps is selling encounter loot/dungeon loot/crafts to the vendors around wasteland having a network of tents? or there is something i am missing

player can buy private mine to get a shit ton of resources and craft what he needs and level up
caps are most useful for trading between players and installing augments and buying vehicles since using them on vendors is a waste
caps are used for much more things :
- rerolls (10k each)
- buying detonators for c4s (2500 each)
- buying special implants (250k each)
- installing implants (100k each)
- vehicles
- bases
- professions
- blueprints
etc.. etc..
but all that are only one-time pays, once you get bases, vehicles, prof, bp etc.. which you need, you will never buy them again, only real caps sink which players use all the time are private mines
yes, its not worth to barter with caps since you can sell all kind of crafted or looted stuff, they are used mostly for trading between players
combat armor mk2 is farmable via ncr army encounter (?) (is possible to solo?)
yes, camk2 can be farmed from ncr army and ofc, every encounter is soloable
i personally prefer to buy them from npc through barter rather then farm NCR army
