So, in a nutshell, wipe, add a content, wipe, add a content?
Almost. Wipe, add content, followed by play season including more updates with more content, [time lapse], pre-wipe updates, pre-wipe madness (for ~2 weeks), then new wipe with more content. Repeat.
Also, if you really study the comments in this thread, you'll see there are two major schools of thought on this topic, and they are 100% incompatible:
1) Wipes are
not good for community.
2) Wipes
are good for community.
The people in group 1 know wipes make things easier for devs, at the cost of all this work time for players. The people in group 2 erroneously believe wipes are necessary for new content, often peppered with their twisted perceptions of balance. Hence the comment above, "
wipes bring change" when in reality "
wipes make changes easier to implement" or work brings changes, or people bring changes. The truth is, while converting data to accommodate big changes would be a major pain, it's how the rest of the world works. But the rest of the world makes money in commercial ventures. This game does not.
Personal note: i would not mind if, maybe once a year, Kilgore took some donation money and set up a 2-week tropical island resort vacation for the devs, as a way of rewarding them for this work. Assuming that level of donations could ever happen here. Or just buy a few bottles of donation Vodka. Probably the Vodka.
